I didn't really know what to expect once I started playing videos. Opening sets are still more difficult then primetime. But I have gotten 3x compliments since I started doing video. For the first couple of outings, i was mixing quite slowly(relatively), but I am ramping back up to full speed ahead. Now, I am wondering what took me so long to get going? (haha, perhaps it was the 57 only option).
Anyone else have similar experiences?

Do you think that's unique to VJ'ing? Or do you mean in general?

For me in general. I try not to start off in at the same point, genre, bpm, definitely track.

for me its videos, I really like to start older and work my way up, spiking the occasional next hit in there, but for me, recurrent videos are hard to find using the current pools available. I am not so great at editing yet...
With just audio, I can get people up to dance to just about anything...

the one thing that i have noticed with video is that people will start dancing later in the evening. when there is no videos, they get bored a lot faster and figure oh well i guess i should start dancing (that's if your music is halfway decent) on the other hand with the videos playing they like 2 watch the videos - the better you are at at it (creative, transitions, effects, etc) the longer they will wait to dance. still havent decided if it's a bad thing or not, because the crowd is not bored, and they are for the most part drinking. It's still early in the game for me, but that's what i see so far.

ditto for me jazzy...
its weird to dj opening, because i just see a bunch of people watching the videos...they get their drinks on, eventually it pulls them out thoo...
Once they do start dancing, its fun, you get half n half, people watching screens other half waiting to see their fav song...

I usually have people on the floor early on. There are a lot of people watching but still dance. I like opening with some random old school sets. You seem to get away with a lot more now. It is cool to see the reaction you get when you play videos for something crazy like Color Me Badd - All 4 Love or Bobby Brown - Every Little Step or cool reggae like Mr. Vegas - Heads High or Supercat - Ghetto Red Hot.

haha
I played heads high and murder she wrote last night...i got a lot of love for Candy Rain...
I think the key for me now is that I have SOME videos, is to be more organized...

Yeah, I love dropping some shit that make people go damn they looked whack back in the 80s. I might bust out a milli vanilli video next time. blend into blame it by jamie foxx and end with a jesus pose.

I think both heads high and murder she wrote were from 8th wonder. It looks like a 90s video...I wouldn't mind dropping a mill vanilli video too...i enjoy playing some of the cooler songs from the late 80s/early 90s golden age era...music was more fun then...need me some kid n play...
