Universal video encoding settings for different videos

I've been encoding my videos at 768 x 480... don't ask me why it seemed like a good idea but with some 4:3 videos I'm seeing a margin on the top and the bottom when played in Video-SL... I'm considering using 640 x 480 or 800 x 600... is it a good idea? I have all sorts of videos in different dimensions, triangle and every shape

If you are using a Mac, try OVERSCAN in your display settings.

if that's with displayconfigX, it doesn't seem to support Leopard

I don't have my Mac with me at work but I do have Leopard and overscan is in the display settings. It's just a box to tick (check).
