New 15" Macbook Pro Configuration

Hi,
I am going to purchase a new 15" Macbook Pro to DJ using Video-SL and wanted some advice on the ideal configuartion. I've read a lot of posts but can't find any direct reference to my questions.

I was going to get a 500gb hard drive and was wondering whether people thought it was worth paying extra to upgrade it to a 7200rpm rather that 5400? Will I notice any difference and do you think the upgrade is worthwhile for Video-SL?

Also having read around on the forum I gather it is better to opt for a model with a graphics card with it's own memory, will 256mb be enough or is it better to go for a model with 512mb?

Your advice and help would be greatly appreciated!
Many thanks
Dan

There was a recent discussion about this on external drives. As always, some thought yes and some thought no.

I fall on the yes side. I have just ordered a new 15" as well and on the 512mb model the hard drive upgrade is $45.00 difference if I remember right. Well worth the extra dollars.

I was one of the "no" people due to heating issues of the 7200rpm drive. I didn't notice any difference between 7200rpm and 5400rpm while using VSL, except for the overheating of the 7200rpm drive.

As for the video card, you will be able to get by just fine w/ 256mb right now, but I can't say for certain that a year or two from now you'll be able to get by just fine. I always see it as being more worthwhile to spend an extra $300 now than spend $2500 for a new laptop when mine (that i didn't want to max out to begin with) becomes prematurely obsolete.
