Is anyone using the APC-40 as a controller for Serato?

I have been doing some research on it and I don;t think it is the best piece of gear for Serato. First off, it really is linked hard to Ableton. There are a lot of software issues as well and for that you need a Akai program called Max for Live in order to be able to do any type of custom programming. And the final kicker is that because this is a branded for Ableton piece, they have said that they will not be making any other templates for other software.
I think you can use this for Serato, but you will really lose a lot of functionality, and for the price, it's just doesn't seem worth it.
I am actually looking at the Akai MPD 32 controller as an alternative.
It's a shame, because the APC-40 is a cool looking machine.

I just got live and thought that this controller would be cool if they worked together.

It's 100% made for live. I would buy it in second if I used live.

max for live is not a akai software............... is the future now......... (well from the 23rd of noveber 2009).............
max for live is Max (from cycling74) inside ableton........
with both version you are able to make your own synth, midi devices, effects etc. etc. (as long as you know what you are doin')......
have fun...... serato does it better........ love from roma!!!!!!

How about the Novation Launchpad? Unfortunately it does not have any knobs and faders, but it has a whole lot more pads/buttons and much smaller footprint (and REALLY lower price)

Why use it for serato when it's so much better for ableton?

I use it for Serato and Ableton it works for both real good. And maybe in the future (NAMM2010) I will be able to do much more with it :-)

I just tried mapping my APC40 to serato for the first time tonight and had no issues.
The 8x5 button array sends MIDI notes by default anyway, as do the stop clip buttons so mapping them to loops, looprolls, cues and play toggle button etc. was no problem at all.
Very low latency also, especially compared Live where the buttons aren't responsive enough to use them to play samples like you would an MPC.
I couldn't get the APC's faders and rotary knobs to assign to anything however, but my MPK49's worked no problem so something odd's going on with them.
All in all it works great with serato if all you need are trigger buttons, and means I don't need to go out and buy an MPD32 especially!

my gf just got me the APC40 for Christmas.
I was able to assign everything including the knobs and faders.
I'm using Video SL... So I assigned the APC40's fader to fade the video. Now I have separate faders for audio and video.

the lights on the buttons? I'll check again when I get home, but I don't think so. The buttons work, but I believe the colored lights turning off and on are tied into Ableton.
I did use the knobs to adjust the auto loop/loop roll count.
I also have a knob assigned to change the transition effect for the videos, but that one acts a little funny. Had a problem assigning to my M-Audio keyboard too. It works, but you just have to move it really slowly.

I'm going to wait and see what Rane comes up with next week.
Hopefully, they'll have a new mixer that integrates SSL with Abelton Live nicely.

I didn't think they would. I am not sure but I think the developers need to program that ability.
