buy the new unibody macbook pro. they sell after market products so that you can use s-video with the mni display output. use the search feature.

Yes, get the macbook pro that came out right before the unibody. It will save you a lot of time and hassle. The new unibody is great, but yes you will have to get an external 3rd party adapter for it. I can go into more, but will keep it short.

Pre unibody mac sucked ass. The output was all shaky and I couldn't ever have full quality output. It was workin on the edge.
Unibody macs runs the smoothest!!

I use Quickplay by Aver media and the quality is supreme.
Perhaps your boy didn't switch from 9400 to 9600 card.
That's what happened to me for the first time. Remember unibody mbp's have 2 graphic cards. You have to switch

The quality of the quickplay is alright probably a 6 out of 10 and for the price you can't beat it. Shoot, I'll sell you mine with the apple mini display for $60 if anyone wants it. To get a really good quality you definitely have to go the lines of something like the Kramer VP-501XL. Even than it's still maybe an 8 out of 10.

It all depends, i would recommend the quickplay for it's price and pretty good quality, I would bring it up to a 7/10 for. The quality of the kramer is probably 9/10, yes I've upped all my rating. On a side by side test the kramer is a little shaper and the color is more vibrant. It is really noticeable with contrasting scenes like a neo-light...etc.
They're are a few issues, not big but issues. The auto sizing of the screen can sometimes be off (bc videos come in different screen sizes) until you play a video that fills the whole screen and it will resize it correctly again. This has only happened once. Also this could be a good or bad thing, it uses a power supply. Some like the extra usb port for midi or external and some (myself) don't like it, because you now have another component to deal with. This would be a good unit if you are at a residency.
The quickplay should be adequate for most people, especially if you use projectors. The color variants aren't as noticeable.
Those are the only two I've tried.

It's cool. I didn't know either at first.
Click your battery icon on the top of the screen to your right.
Go to: Energy Saver Preferences
and then choose Higher performance
