Folks,
I've seen some threads with similar subjects but I'm still a little confused. I'm making the switch from PC to MAC so I can run video.
Apple just came out with new MacBooks and I'm wondering what to get. I'm looking at the 15" MacBook Pros, the 2.53 GHz model has the NVIDIA 9400M integrated video. The next level up the 2.66 GHz has the 9400M + 9600M GT video.
The million dollar question is will the 2.53 GHz run video fine or should I fork out an additional $300 for the 2.66 GHz model? The 2.66 GHz model also has a larger HD.
Sorry, I'm a complete rookie when it comes to MACs. I've never owned one.
Any help and opinions are appreciated.
Thanks!!

I'm just about as much a noob as you when it comes to MAC's but if you are going for the 15inch then I'd go for the 2.66 model as that gives you the added 9600M graphics card.
if you are not bothered about the 9600M card then I'd suggest going for the 13inch MBP as that has the 2.53 Ghz and 9400M card.
I've just picked up that 13" MBP and my initial tests looks like it can handle VSL with no problems but think if you are wanting a 15" size then its wise to go for the 2.66 Ghz model.

That's kind of the way I'm leaning. I think I can run VSL on my Dell but the CPU usage is pretty high, averages about 70% so after reading all of the threads here I figure a MAC is the way to go.

you'll be surprised how well VSL runs on a mac compared to windows... :)

If your already spending X amount on a new mac, why not throw another 300 bux at it and get 1. faster processor. 2. better graphics card 3. more hard drive space. Just a reminder, each mp4 can take anywhere from 50 to 200mb (estimate).

to answer your million dollar question, 2.53 will work just fine for video.

The lowest one will work fine. The majority of us have the old style aluminum macbook pros (no unibody) with 2.0 to 2.5 ghz proc, 2 to 4 gigs of ram and 128 to 512 video cards (not onboard) and we all run vsl fine with all the effects.

Man get the 9600 nVidia Mac.
9400 may stutter from time to time.
Fucc the $300, you will spend it anyway on some buzz :))

This was good advice, I bought the first unibody macbook, and I have had no major problems, but I always wonder what if I got the other mac...

I don't think you would be that happy. Pre unibody Macbook Pro's were running video on the edge. I couldn't get the higest quality output.
Unibody is the real thing!!
