System for Video SL

DJPanos 10:51 PM - 10 June, 2009
Guys a little advice if this system would handle video sl without any problem.

I own the SL-1 for audio.

Was thinking for getting the following

Mixer - KORG ZERO 4 for midi control

Computer - Vista 64

CPU 2.4GHz AMD Phenom 9750 X4
Memory 8GB 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Graphics 512MB NVIDIA

or
Intel Core2 Quad Processor Q8300 2.5gz
Vista 64
8GB DDR2 system memory

So I'm looking into around $2200 to $2500 for the mixer and pc.

is this worth it?

You can also add the solution that works out of the box...a Macbook Pro. The new pricing structure has helped out fitting into budgets. It will definitely be under $2500.

many people will say...

"buy a mac"

i say "buy mac"

I dont want to get into an arguement over a mac. I am an old apple programmer.. Starting back from Apple II (yea now i'm giving in on my age ) :)
I am just asking if the mixer is any good
and if the pc configuration is any good

Thank you guys :)

The mixer is okay. Check the korg forums for comments from the happy and not so happy users. I have tried it out a few times. Sound was thin, all the knobs felt a bit cheap. Midi works as advertised. It does have good bang for the buck but not sure how reliable it will be. Also I think it is discontinued so not sure how service will be down the line.

What do you recommend Rebelguy? If I may ask
Rebelguy 2:43 AM - 11 June, 2009
The usual characters:

Pioneer DJM-800
Ecler Evo 4

or find a midi controller that works for you. Might be a bit more flexible if you do club gigs so you don't have to hook up a mixer.

DJPanos take the advice and get a macbook pro, believe me is worth it :)

This thread has me thinking -- I have a TTM56, I wonder how hard it would be to mod it with a MIDI slider linked on the inside? hmm

sorry, i know you don't want to get in a mac but you mentioned the setup you were getting and asked "is this worth it?"
so NO, it's not worth it. not worth it when you can get a mac for about the same price like Rebelguy said. if you can get a mac for the same price to use for scratchlive. to me, it's worth it.

pioneer djm-800
ecler evo 4
korg zero 4
korg zero 8 (this will put you over buget probably)
all good mixers.

but if you just want 2 volume faders and ease of setup then the 57 is a good choice.

personally i have the sl1 and the 57. it's good to have when setting up multiple djs.

if this helps i run an HP-dv6000 with 2.2 dual core t4100 pentium, 4 gigs of ram,. vista home edition, nvidia 8400m video card with dedicated i think only 192megs and i run ssl and cue for video both with no problems. you say your where a mac programmer so you know the insides are the same its the user and settings that makes the difference. me i would def go with the quad over the amd more processing power is always great.

as for the mixer all the mixers stated are great for midi control. i personally use a midi controller for video rather than a mixer. its easier to fit into club situations and controls everything or anything i assign it to.

get a mac. if you have to get a pc don't get an AMD chip (i'm perplexed as to why they are still in business...intel has raped them for the last 3 years).

anyways if i where you, i would go with macbook pro 13 and ttm-57 sl. sell your sl-1 on ebay you can get ($400-$500) for it.

On the mixer, the zero 4...I tested it out after wanting it for a few months and really didn't like it at all. See if you can find one around you to test out

I would not recommend the new 13" macbook pro for video. The video card is just not that good.

you're better off with a refurbished one of the last few models if you are looking to pinch pennies. i personally use the 2.5 and it works flawless. look at my profile.
