Install smcFanControl, a pretty simple fan control and monitoring program, you can set normal settings and active settings (higher rpm). When I first got my mbp, I was having minor heat issues...after I installed this little program, temps are now much much lower. On top of that, you should click on the apple and do a Software Update, as recently Apple put out an update to the OS. That might even find newer or updated drivers. Also, by default, the NVIDIA 9400 is the active video card...go in to System Preferences and change the Energy Saver Graphics from Better Battery Life to Higher performace. That will switch it to the 9600, or whatever your better card is. I installed Perian, but found out a few weeks later, I needed to do some manual adjusting...thanks to nik for helpin with that. Also, make sure you have the most recent version of quicktime, not the version that comes with your original vsl purchase. I only had a video freeze on me one time, for about 2 minutes, then it unfroze itself and things were fine. Even with spending 4000+ $ on this mbp, I would suggest a backup plan (cd, ipod, backup computer) in case of failure. You never can be too safe.
