I just got the video SL upgrade. I have the ttm57 for a mixer and 2 turn tables. do i need anything else besides the projector? when i plug in the projector to my laptop it is not recognizing the external screen is there. What am i missing

Also is there an option with Video SL to type text such as "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" that can appear on the screen as well?
I have someone telling me the numark software is more user friendly for vids but scratch live is better for music. I don't really feel like using 2 softwares. Any thoughts out there on this?
