Serato Video General Discussion

Talk about Serato Video and Video-SL.

Im sick of edited "clean" videos.

dj hes 9:45 PM - 28 May, 2009
Lolli Lolli, Get Low, Back that Ass upp, Go Girl.....all great songs, but all i have is the clean version, and every one of these would be better with the dirty version for the clubs.

I am sick of clean versions of vids, i sometimes play the mp3 just because it is the dirty version instead of the video.

if there are any services out there that offer both i am all ears!
Mister P 10:26 PM - 28 May, 2009

aj5000 10:31 PM - 28 May, 2009
Smahvidz do both clean and dirty. makes me not worry about hip-hop and top40 so I can edit and remix my Latin videos and everything ease

Uh...you could just replace the audio. It takes like 10 minutes.

Vega is from Street Fighter. Jk Sony Vegas would work but why convert then have to render again. You could demux then remux with the dirty audio.

Yamb program
a-swift 4:19 AM - 29 May, 2009
Yes. Normally if I want a clean and dirty version, most of the time I can just demux, remix. mpegstreamclip and do this for you. The video will be 100% quality since you are just remuxing the mpeg video stream with a new audio track. You may need to trim up your audio track to match the original track from the video though. After you demux, take both audio tracks into your audio editor and make sure they are 100% on time.

Then just remux the new audio with the video,

To save disk space. I've been making only clean video edits. But, I make a dirty mp3 edit that is synced with the clean mp4's audio. So, when I play the dirty mp3 I just set the video to use the clean mp4 video.

even better. less portable but better.

I mostly do weddings and events where kids are present, so I like the clean versions, sorry.

Thanks for the info! I don't think I have time to do all the video editing right now tho, working like 3 jobs and preparing for a wedding! for you guys that have used video editing programs you dont have a handicap of trying to learn how to do everything. Im starting from scratch here :o/

I agree clean versions are nice for obviously weddings and under age events, but when you are in a night club, people want to hear all the swearing and sexually explicit words lol.

Most of the time people don't know the dirty versions because they only hear the song on the radio or watching videos. Reminds me of the time I played the Dirty version of "Ain't no Fun" and two girls came up and said they were offended by the lyrics.
Charlie Five 7:07 PM - 29 May, 2009
One dude tipped me $50 bucks like 3-4 years ago to NOT play edited music.

He came up to the booth after I played some track, (I actually think it was the Missy-For My People song) and was like 'Here's $50 bucks, please don't play any edited music...'

I felt like a dork. I haven't played edited music since!

I remember being at a local spot and this DJ was doing video. He played the Eminem and Nate Dogg-Shake That track and it was edited. Sounded like shit.
skinnyguy 8:03 PM - 29 May, 2009
dirty versions won't fly in the clubs here. club owner can get fined and djs can get things confiscated. yep. very strict here. liquor commissioners rule. strictest in the state.
dj lad 8:48 PM - 29 May, 2009
Skinnyguy, REALLY? Wow! That's wild. I've never even heard of that - isn't that basically censorship?
skinnyguy 10:09 PM - 29 May, 2009
lad - i guess it is but i'm sure they have their reasons..and judges on their side. my friend played the dirty version of tupac's "how do you want it" at a club a long while back and one of the LC's was there. he went over to my friend and asked if he could see the record that he just played. he got it confiscated. my friend tried to get it back (either in court or visiting the board of lc's) but he couldn't. apparently they have it in their rules and legalese that they can do that here. not sure how that would fly now with ssl and making backup copies....they would probably either ban us from clubs, take our gear, heavily fine us (dj, promoter, and/or club owner), or find some way to screw us so we don't make that mistake again. i wouldn't be surprised if they really do have the power to make any of that happen.

that is the best way with serato currently.

the ultimate would be when serato adds support to read multiple audio streams embedded in the mp4 container. now that is the ultimate solution!

Dirty Lyrics..Clean Lyrics..depends totally on venues..i do a Massive one on south beach called the Clevelander..but the shifts range from day to night..so guess what?..clean versions work during the day and evening..then at 12 - 5 u can rock the dirty..Being a dj since the late 80's i've come to realize..if you're in a REALLY ghetto environment..that's the only time folks r gonna flip or even care that you're playin' editied joints ..Otherwise...if you killin' it..and the party's rockin'..ain't NOBODY comin' up to you complaining about not hearing curses.. Just my take on it. Folks r DEFINITELY more used to hearin' edited or radio mixes of songs...
Millz 2:18 AM - 1 June, 2009
Did they finally re open the Clevelander? I thought for sure they wouldve had it open by WMC this year.

Are there really people that do come and complain about curses? I mean, where I live, in Belgium, this seems really...hmm, how should I say... out of space? I've been following this thread and some of the stories in here are almost impossible to believe. I couldn't imagine, in any venue/bar/pub/party that someone would ever get it into his mind to complain about dirty lyrics or what so ever. Of course, we don't speak english natively, but the vast majority of the people understand it very well...

Strange how "western" cultures can still differ so much from one another...

Greetz,

In my opinion, most people listen to the radio or know the songs off TV videos, so basically they know the clean versions. When i was doing audio only i always played clean versions and have played them for years. Most if not all of my video's that i play are clean versions. But i do agreee that some songs just sound dumb when the clean version is played. Again depends on your venue, but majority of my venues, if i play the dirty version i will get some people offended

That is funny, that song is the best when it is dirty! Can you imagine playing the tip drill video unedited? or PIMP from 50 Cent lol...

I guess it really comes down to the crowd. Mine is a all college student crowd, so they dont have kids, and like to get drunk and grind on each other, and go home with a different person each week. So the shoe fits.

I guess most of the time they are so drunk, that they will fill in the blanks and sing along even if it is the clean version, but some edits I have os some vids (like lolli lolli) have really loud edits with the words scrambled in place of the swear words, and it sounds horrible, I have a version of back that ass up also that does the same thing, so it really doesnt only edit out the words, it sticks out alot, really disrupts the song IMO. When there is a clean version with alternate words, or blank spots it is not as bad and doesnt disrupt the rhythm i dont think.

i have dj'd a ton of mixshows on the radio, and im used to playing edited versions, and yes... people have actually asked why i play edited music, they said were in a bar .. bla bla blah...

so yes.. people actually complain...

its kinda like playing the "im the ish" or "im the shit" people sing along and when they mess up the words.. they are pissed.
