Hi guys,
I am currently using a MacBook with just 2 USB ports.
In these I am using one for sl box and the other
For my external hard drive. I really want to get a midi controller so I
Need another USB port. I thought this wouldn't be a problem as all
I needed was a USB expanded 1 into 4 or something.
But my friend has told me that this is a bad idea?, he said that
If u use the convertor to expand on the number of ports, it will slow
Down the rate that the info can be read from different devises and the
Last thing I wanna do is cause and problems with my audio, or videos
From my external hard drive. Is this the case ? Will it make each port
Read slower? Thanks for your help :)

I've heard of issues where the usb hub would go out during set. I connect 57 and midi to USB. Firewire for external.

If you have a mac just use the firewire port for your hardrive and then you'll free up a USB port plus with video u would rather use firewire then USB

yea, you have a macbook. so use one of the firewire ports, if you have multiple for your external.
btw i have started using my second usb port for 2 midi controllers wired thru a hub. no probs so far.

i have the same problem. I have the new MacBook and unfortunately it does not come with a firewire port. It only has a 2 USB ports, eithernet, power, video, mic and headphone plugs. The MacBook Pro has firewire 800, not the regular MacBook. I tried to use a USB hub but I loose audio after mixing back and forth .mp4 to .mp3 in which I have to reboot Serato.
If I mix videos I have no problem but as soon as I mix into a regular .mp3 I loose all audio and it looks like the audio waves disappear in the waveform display.
I'm still searching for a solution...

you are better off plugging serato DIRECTLY into usb...not thru a hub.
