LAPTOP FOR VSL - PC vs MACBOOK

Hi

An old discussion I am sure, however, I have recently got in to VSL and my old Sony Vaio can't quite handle it. So, i'm looking to invest in a new laptop but cant quite decide for sure about PC vs Macbook. I'm edging towards a Macbook but wanted to know if the new Macbook is powerful enough to run VSL smoothly or is it a must that I get a macbook pro?

If you have the dollars get the 15in Macbook Pro. If not the 13in Macbook works just fine. I have the 13in with 4GB of ram and it runs flawlessly. Go Mac for SSL and VSL!!

mbp. i'm sure the prog itself will run fine on any mac, but unless you plan on having a ton of videos on your internal, get the mbp for the firewire 800 port.

actually, some ppl say that fw 400 is fine for vids too....but fw 400 is only on the white macbook, NOT the unibody model.

i have an older macbook pro with firewire 400 and 800, 400 works fine.

if money is an issue get a used mbp. the model prior to the unibody will work great and you get a very good deal on them.

or keep an eye out on the refurb section for last years macbook (covered under warranty which can be extended), runs around 1300+tax

Being a die hard PC fan,

Mac version seems like its final software, PC version seems like its beta. Works for me, but Im not playing live with it. I definitely think the PC vs Mac gap will be closed with software updates, since the hardware on the 2 is virally the same

I'm a PC fan also but, i've ran the program on booth and for this software the MAC is more stable than PC without all the addional updates. Not bashing the PC, but it's well known that the MAC is better for certain apps and this just happens to be one of them.

Get a MAC. Go for the Macbook Pro no questions.

You can always run Windows on your Mac if needed.

Well worth the $$$

A local dj I know went through 10 PCs before he found one that worked. The key seems to be having the NVidia Video Card...my MacBook Pro 2.5 Ghz has always been flawless, though.

yo i have two pc latest specs both less than a year old. video-sl runs shitty on them no matter what.

get a used macbook pro 2.2+ (late 2007, early/late 2008) from ebay or if your rich get a brand spanking new mpb unibody 2.2+.

i've only bought apple since i started using SSL. For Me, it always ran SSL perfectly out of the box.
A few weeks ago, bought a white Macbook as a backup to my MBP 15" 2.66gh. I installed VSL 1.1 just to see if it could handle. sure enough even The 2.0 ghz macbook ran VSL all night.
no effects restrictions. medium quality.
