Caramac 12:33 PM - 6 May, 2009
It's got guns as well as rap music and some woman gets her big hooped earing yanked straight out of her ear in a scuffle. Throw in some boobs and this could be the best movie ever.

I've mentioned it a few times before.
"It's all gone Pete Tong" is a movie about a superstar DJ who loses his hearing.
It is a very funny movie and I recomend that everyone on this forum spend $20 and buy it.
Especially if you DJ clubs.
Kenny Q 1:02 PM - 6 May, 2009
also,
It's all gone Pete Tong is not a documentary and it is all about the DJ. Unlike the other movies mentioned on this thread.
To me, it is by far the best if not, the only DJ movie out there.

Stylewars is about early graffiti culture but I think it's relevant as well.

Just saw Rolling...it was about ecstasy and my assumption was it would dive deep into rave culture but no it was about a bunch of losers eating disco biscuits all weekend, every weekend trying to be down....don't waste your time. Simply Jeff was appeared in it. I got to play with him years ago, very cool guy and sick breaks dj but besides Jeff the movie was ass.

Groove and Go definitely had rave culture and strong music references sort of along the same lines as Human Traffic but not as good.
DJ Shameless 11:09 AM - 7 May, 2009
hey... since there isn't an out-and-out movie about dj-ing, maybe we should start a script thread and make one up. they did '8 mile' about mc-ing and 'stomp the yard' about dancing, but nobody's done one about dj-ing.

can be called 'Start from Scratch' or something.
Kenny Q 11:49 AM - 7 May, 2009
It's all gone Pete Tong is a a movie about a DJ just like 8 mile is about an MC.
beatdown 5:07 PM - 7 May, 2009

#2 Scratch
#3 The Freshest Kids
#4 Beat Street
#5 Beef

Hon. mention: 8 Mile

Juice don't make the top #5 and beat street is #4? I really only remember one scene w/ the DJ in Beat Street and that was Jazy J in the club. Q rocked it or at least acted like he rocked it! There was even a battle.
skinnyguy 10:41 AM - 23 May, 2009

Fever Pitch - film of Nick Hornby's novel by the same name. Not exactly the best plot line ever, but seeing this years ago and watching how the main character who owns a record shop puts tracks and play lists to episodes in his life hit a cord ...before I even knew how much music meant to me.

Powerpill 12:30 PM - 17 April, 2010
I was running a club in Manchester when they filmed "24 Hour Party People" (which is a hilarious movie, folks) and we were asked to provide some clubbers for scenes that were meant to be filmed in the famous Hacienda club. Only problem was that the Hacienda had been turned into flats a few years earlier, so they remade the whole inside of the club in a disused warehouse on the other side of the city for the purposes of filming. they also took the chance to throw a few club nights in there at the same time before dismantling it again! Happy days.

Copyright Criminals, a documentary about digital samplings head-on collision with copyright law, features many of hip-hop musics celebrated figures—including Public Enemy, De La Soul, the Beastie Boys, and Digital Underground—as well as emerging artists from record labels Definitive Jux, Rhymesayers, Ninja Tune, and more. The documentary also provides an in-depth look at artists who have been sampled, such as former James Brown drummer Clyde Stubblefield, as well as commentary by another highly sampled musician, funk legend George Clinton.

I suppose that's possible. Still, whenever I get those warnings, it's an instant deterrent for me.

So far, the only movie (non documentary), that is about a DJ is "It's all gone Pete Tong".
Watchwww.youtube.com

A few weeks ago I saw "Lost Boys 3, The Thirst". This movie has a DJ who is the head vampire.

This is a sitcom.
Everybody hates chris
the whole show is about him wanting to be a dj. Even dj quik is in it and he goes to jail and chris takes over on the turntables. Then chis want to go buy some tables and he gets 1200.
Best show ever.

There should be a better link out there. That's not the full episode, nor does it have the right audio.

anybody seen the movie "EXIT THROUGH THE GIFT SHOP". it doesnt have anything to do with djing. but, as a fan of graffiti and street art and the business of producing, this documentary was pretty awesome.

i highly recommend it.

I saw this doc and I truly believe this was just another troll by Banksy, on a massive scale. He colluded with this "artist", just to show what a joke pop culture and it's followers can be.

Was staged from beginning to end, well maybe not from the beginning, but at some point, I'm thinking Banksy came up with the idea to create a faux-artist and see if he could create all this buzz around him, build a legion of followers, watch everything unfold, then sit back and snicker from his lair somewhere.

Either way, DEFINITELY worth the watch.

"Obviously the story is bizarre, that’s why I made a film about it, but I’m still shocked by the level of skepticism. I guess I have to accept that people think I’m full of shit. But I’m not clever enough to have invented Mr. Brainwash, even the most casual on-line research confirms that.

Ordinarily I wouldn’t mind if people believe me or not, but the film’s power comes from the fact it’s all 100% true. This is from the frontline, this is watching an art form self-combust in front of you. Told by the people involved. In real time. This is a very real film about what it means to ‘keep it real’.

Besides, if the movie was a carefully scripted prank you can be sure I would’ve given myself some better lines. I would’ve meticulously planned my spontaneous off-the-cuff remarks. I love that famous Jack Benny come-back to a heckler - “You wouldn’t say that if my writers were here.” But I’ve always wondered - did his writers tell him to say that?"

Right Banksy, right.

u gotta admit all those retards they interviewed during the actual MBW show were really a bunch of retards. lol. like seriously. most people can't discern between art and rubbish. they were all sheep/posers!

"Warhol repeated iconic images until they became meaningless, but there was still something iconic about them. Thierry really makes them meaningless."

I checked out Press Pause Play. Really makes you think about the landscape we live in when it comes to....everything. You really have to be dialed in and focused to watch it though, it's a little heavy. Also check out Blank City, documentary about the late 70's early 80's time period in New York and what was going on in film, music, and the start of djing.

Very true, there was acutually a point where i got kinda depressed while watching it, it was going down the list about how easy it is with todays tech to persue your artistic goals now, and im thinkin to myself yup im makin music and writin ect hell ya.....then it started goin in about how this makes EVERYONE think they can be creative but most people suck but dont realise it and all their crap waters everything down....by the end of that section of the movie i was just sitting there like i just found out my life was a lie lol
phonze 7:26 PM - 19 December, 2012
Yeah, so true. Another thing that got to me was when that chick was talking about how she was checking her emails while watching a movie and how we don't just sit and listen to music anymore. It's pretty much background noise now, so people are looking to trick and hook people into listening to music now by putting out commercial stuff that will appeal. To be honest, I can't think of the last time I actually sit and listened to an album front to back. I normally do it before I got to bed so I have no distractions, but it's been a while.
