Screen Tearing issue with Video-SL and Mobility Radeon HD 3650

360loop 1:06 AM - 22 April, 2009
Hey guys, I have a Dell Studio 1737 laptop with the Mobility Radeon HD 3650 video card. No matter what I do, even with vsync enabled, I get pretty bad screen tearing in my playback while using Video-SL. I have Vsync enabled in both the ATI catalyst drivers control panel, and in serato. I am using the dell driver package 8.512-080703a-066874C-Dell. I tried using the mobility modder over at driverheaven.net to install the standard desktop video drivers on my laptop, but that didn't work out, the video playback with those drivers was horrible. ATI doesn't have any drivers spacifically for this Mobility Radeon HD 3650 card on their site. Any suggestions as to what I can try to resolve this screen tearing issue? I tried the same exact video file with the same vga cable and TV for testing on my friends older Acer laptop and his did not have the screen tearing issue, so it's not the video file itself or video encoder. I use Imtoo Encoder. Thanks guys, any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Here are my system specs:
Intel Core2 Duo P8400 (2.20GHz/1066Mhz FSB/3MB cache)
4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 800MHz
256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650
320GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
Vista Home Premium Service Pack 1 64 Bit
Scratch LIVE version 1.8.2
VIDEO-SL 1.0.2

What are you outputting too?

If you are outputting to LCD try this www.serato.com

The two different output devices are Plasma TVs, one Maxent and one Panasonic. I have tried HDMI and VGA output, and both have the same problem

I'm sure it will have to do with the output Hz you have the external display settings set at. it should be either 50 Hz or 60 Hz.

The only two options I have in the display manager are 59hz or 60hz. The problems seems less prevelent at 59 than 60, but its still definitly there. Is there any way to override it to 50hz or something? Let me konw. Thanks guys!

HDMI and VGA will have different settings for each, have you tried both with this method?
360loop 1:49 AM - 25 April, 2009
Yes, we have tried both with this method with the same result. We have also tried reloading the system fresh with xp instead of vista and that did not help any either. Still screen tearing. My friends laptop, an older acer with X1600 pro graphics works fine on both of these TVs at 59hz and 60hz, but when I put my Dell Studio on there at the same hz, i get bad screen tearing. It seems to me like an issue with the video card or drivers. I have tried all the different video drivers I could find and none made any difference at all. Any more suggestions?

Ok everybody the 1.1 Sl Video has been installed with the 1.90 version SSL screen tearing issues are still occuring with the upgrades. It looks like I'll be running the beta version of Windows 7 while video mixing. If anybody has any other suggestions please post. Thanks for all the support.

the setting is in the Displays preference, and will only show if you have a external TV plugged in.
360loop 4:24 PM - 26 June, 2009
