Got the Vid Quality Lookin Good..but...

So I got my settings right for good vid quality, but I am having issues with a -10 to -20ms lag. I know its not my mix, as the mpeg2 is right on, with no lag. I found that TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress works real nice, I just need to get this lag under control. I WILL PAY someone via paypal for a bit of their time regarding this.
Thanks
Thanks

Is there any reason or MAJOR difference between 720 x 480 or 640 x 480 ? I am just tryin to rule out every possiblity...sigh

if there is a lag in quicktime, use a different encoder or at least an encoder that lets you specify an audio offset time.

First I suggest mediacoder....: )
Wow I feel bad for you... been there...
if you want to try mediacoder copy the script below to note pad and save as whatever.xml drag it over the program and let go and it will load all settings.

Here is the problem with mediacoder:
Because my 1000+ extended video edits/mashups/etc start at 0:0:00.00, Mediacoder creates an audio artifact for the first beat or "sound" of each video edit. Ive explained it in other posts. This is the link to the video: www.mediafire.com that shows what it does.
I am going to load this profile and see if it changes anything, but im pretty exhausted with all of these encoding issues im having:(

Millz, i think you're pretty much the only person having this problem. Are you married to mediacoder for some reason. Here's how I approach it. If my tools don't do what I need them to do, I either figure out how to make them work right or use a new tool. No exceptions.

Ive tried 10 different encoders, the problem was in my original output settings in vegas for my mpeg2's. Ive corrected the problem in my new mixes, Im just having issues with the old mixes Ive done. And I honestly dont wanna redo 1000 vid mixes :|
I had a lot of luck with TMPGEnc, but I couldnt get the timing right. Handbrake's quality looks like crap, unless I have the quality settings wrong. Super never worked right, and the others vid quality was piss poor

The quality on my old mpeg2s are perfect, but they are encoded at or around 9000 to 10,000kbps. They played on VDJ no problems (besides vdj being a crap program).

Say is this only with your converted videos have you tried someone elses video. If need be I can give you a sample vid. Swift is right u seem to be the only one with this issue. I can't talk much about 64 bit as I am running 32 but I am not having any issues....on my pc. I some times get lag coming out of my s-vid other than that no lag at all. Does quicktime have a 64bit installer...?

It is just with my Vegas produced mpeg2's.
Container: MPEG-PS
Bitrate: 6307Kbps
Size: 206 MB
Overhead: 0.4%
Video: MPEG-PES
Bitrate: 5631 Kbps
Resolution: 720 x 480
Frame Rate: 29.97 FPS
Audio: MPEG Audio
Bitrate: 224Kbps (CBR)
Sample Rate: 48000 Hz
Channel: 2
That is a sample of the file Ive been testing to encode from mpeg2 to mp4. Im trying handbrake but I am gettin the lag again.
I have no issues with any other files from any other sources, just files that were produced via vegas. A few of my buddies have made mpeg2 vid mixes from vegas as well and Im having the same issues.

When I make edits in Vegas, the last thing I do before rendering is move the audio portion about 5-6 frames, otherwise they are not in sync. They are in sync in the preview window, but not once I render them - I am rendering to mp4 Mainconcept

No lag in VLC sounds like your having a quicktime issue. At a minium I would uninstall quicktime and reinstall it to see if that makes a diffrence. If no lag while playing in VLC it then your conversion are fine you have other issues.

They seem to be OK @ 8-bit. I haven't had the chance to do a lot of side by side comparisons with all the different settings. Do the 32-bit vids play ok? I assume they would be crisper? I have noticed my Promo Only chyrons are a little fuzzy.
I'm definitely open to suggestions!

I'm told 32-bit is for "deep color"

the bit depth makes a huge difference in quality. just wait until you encode everything in 8bit and then you figure that out. frustration will take over.

i know some dudes who are converting their DVD VOB files to DV, and then editing the DV files in final cut, and then exporting the project to an mp4 file. it would be bad enough if this was their own personal collection, but they are SELLING them online (and lots of dudes are buying them).
The DV codec CRUSHES the color and contrast so bad, its a joke. the blacks get pulled up into greys and the whole thing ends up looking washed out. its bad.

so, aside from that glitch in mediacoder you run into...
would you say that TMPGEnc delivers a better convert than Mediacoder?
(I too am always looking for the best convert)
also, does TMP have "the cropper" like media coder?
thats one of the most useful tools on there.
I have no problem spending some cake on a program... but everytime I think
I found the be-all-end-all of software I find a post like this

yea it has a bunch of useful tools. Mediacoder was easy, and I wouldve used it, but 6 out of every 10 dj remix video edits would have that sound artifact in the first beat of the track. I just gotta get Phat AL to teach my punk ass how to batch properly ;)

And,
The overall quality LOOKS better with TMPGEnc. The colors are richer. The blacks are blacker (not greyish like in mediacoder). Ive tried 15 different encoders, and now that I got the bugs worked out of TMPGEnc, I am finally satisfied with this encoder.

Millz - doesn't TMPGEnc use the same Mainconcept encoder that is found in Sony Vegas? I was going to give it a shot, but then I saw that it is using the Mainconcept codec. I am using Vegas 7.0 -- does 8.0 have a better encoder?
I haven't been too happy with the .mp4 quality out of Vegas 7.0, so I have been rendering my edits as uncompressed avi files. I have been pleased with Mediacoder (and coverting PO vobs) so far, but it must have an input size limit because it won't render my uncompressed avi's to mp4.
If there are others unhappy with the Vegas mp4 quality, can anyone share what they are using to render uncompressed avi to mp4?

there are some settings in vegas that you have to set in "properties" like deinterlacing etcetc. Vegas 8 seems to be better than 7. I use mediacoder for all my single edits. (promo only, rock america, etc) I am using TMPGEnc for all my dj edits that start at 0:0:00.00 because of the sound artifacts that mediacoder did on the first down beat of mixes that started exactly at zero. I honestly can not tell the difference between mpeg2 and mp4 using TMPGEnc (for dj mixes only).

if you notice in my fcp sessions video, i always put a 1 second silent black slug at the beginning of all my edits. however, none of my encoder munge the first beat but the practice is probably a good one always.
