Wondering if anyone is running this combo, I have the TTM-57, but really want the DJM800 and wanted to run VSL, curious how well the video crossfade works via midi
Anyone?

@ Kris...
what midi are you using. I have the m-audio UNO.. it worked with my mac and other midi gear just fine.

Phat,
I am using that one as well and have had no issues with it while using Serato.

UNO. I rocked a dope set with 2 DVJ1000s and a DJM800 and the UNO. Midi works really good. Color control and midi is sick.

Both are possible with the 800, as well as assigning effects to the color knobs etc.....Its a great platform. Yes midi out to usb in.

I'm using a DJM800 with an MPD32 and macbook.
The MPD32 lets me use the pads as cue point buttons and everything is assignable!!
It worked flawlessly for me on the weekend!!!!

Although I like the 57's functionality with V-SL (how it syncs, crate scrolling, cues, loops in and out, ect) I HATE the crossfader. If you are not a scratch DJ (which I am minimally) it's terrible. <again my opion, no need to slam me> I miss using the 800. Time to get a new one! Happy to see it working out so well for everyone.

An 800 only has traditional midi connections (DIN connectors: en.wikipedia.org ). The uno, or similar device, is required to connect this to a USB connection on your computer.

Shop around Chris, I have 3 different Uno's (2 in my studio) and one for SSL/VSL. Bought the first 2 at Guitar Center for 40 bux, and bought the 3rd one off ebay for 17 bux used.

I you don't mind using the keyboard for cues or switching video you do not need the uno, but for $40 its WORHT EVERY PENNY.

What we are both saying in different ways is;
If you want to use the 800 to control video, you will need the uno or similar device.
Otherwise, you will be stuck using the keyboard on your computer.

They are the same response. Both say midi on the 800 is great. Computers don't have midi inputs. They have USB. Get a midi to USB adapter and go crazy.

or include a USB to MIDI adapter, since probably everyone using the pioneer midi capability is using a COMPUTER, not other musical instruments.

Without speaking for Pioneer it come down to what works and what is the industry standard. Some people want midi, some want usb, some want firewire, some want ethernet. There are a lot of options and without going into a long discussion on what's is best, etc, etc, its about what works now and how much $$$ you want to spend on a mixer. The MEP and CDJ400 are great examples of what is to come from Pioneer.

Great advise, I'm learning alot!!!(I'm new to video) I have a mackbook pro with 2 usb ports a firewire and a miniport display. I don't really have any idea how to set up my pioneer 800 and my scratch interface to mix videos. Help?
---- With 2 usb ports (one used for my scratch interface and one for my little gismo i bought to convert from digital to analog display) where the heck do I plug in the midi controler coming from the mixer???? huh?
I know for some this question might sound stupid but I really don't know. hehe!!

Maybe a USB Hub???? (I hate the idea of that.) Midi for the 800 would be usb to midi. Its very easy to hook up.

If your gonna run a USB Hub, make sure you get a complient one that will feed a max load of 500ma to each port via external power. A T7 is the way to roll. I have one and it does work great. Comes with a 3.5 amp Power adapter which is enough to feed all 7 ports theire required 500ma's. Here's a link to one. It doesnt matter where you get it, just get a T7 if you need to run a Hub.

I use something similar to this on my macbookpro, and it works pretty well:

I just make sure I plug the SL hardware directly into the Macbook Pro, and use the USB port on this for a midi controller only

Thank you, I think I'm gonna use this one. The one you're recommending dj Mad Matt looks great but I'm just not sure about more outside gadgets with more power strips, My laptop looks already crowded as it is with the vga to s-video converter and the serato interface. I'll try the "img.nokaut.pl" and report back on how it works. Thanks guys!!!!

i kinda wish that the 800 had kills for the eqs, it would be cool if u hit the eq for the bass/treble/mids and it would kill the them...
that way the the eq for the bass/treble/mids kill would be on the same knob...
u would have more buttons for midi as well :)

even tho i just bought one, if they came out with something like that, i would buy it again.
maybe if they put the headphone stuff in another area, and made that for more midi buttons...that would rock even more!
i wonder if some of these companies are starting to realize that djs are gonna look for mixers with more midi functions?
i need more midi buttons :)

u know another thing they need to do with the 800?
is this...
right next to the on/off button(the button thats orange when lit up)for the efx.. they need to have another button, the purpose of this, u hit it it turn on the effect but once u let go of the button it turns off the effect.
get it ?
because with the efx, u have to hit the button to turn it on... and then hit it to turn the efx off, which is cool, but what if u wanna just do it the efx for a quick second.
damnit they need hire me. all in favor say I
