Auto-Gain for MP4s?

Hi everyone! I'm in the process of ripping a bunch of DVDs in preparation for Video-SL. I'm using handbrake and with the serato video-sl presets. Some of my videos after being ripped are a little quieter than others. I plan to go and buy the video-sl plugin after I'm done ripping everything but for now, I'm not sure if I should re-rip them and somehow change the volume settings or does the Auto gain feature apply for Mp4's as well?
because if it does then i'm not going to spend time re-ripping the videos.
Thanks!

I went your route and decided to normalize the audio files before muxing. The very small waveforms made me change my mind.

normalize is forever part of my workflow. not a true psycoacoustic level adjustment but damn sure better than nothing. i rarely run into levels issues.
