how about a 'peak search' option to instantly 'normalize' the gain on each channel in SSL?
I guess this is how the autogain will eventually work, but how about a peak search function so that users can manually gain up till just peaking in the red in the ssl vu meter?

I would prefer a fully automated auto gain function, and the user decides whether its based on "peak" or on "RMS" (which is something like the perceived loudness, which is better for having your songs at one volume. Imagine you have one vinyl ripped song which is at a very low volume, now you have one click (vinyl pop/scratch) which peaks the volume... then your tracks volume wont be increased, see the advantage?).
But, yeah, if the track gets analyzed anyway, checking for a peak wouldnt be that hard, though I still dont see the use for it. :-)

very good point nik39. Recently I've been going through my aiffs with Bias Peak and performing the 'Find Peak' option to see if any of the peaks are clicks. If they are clicks I simply select the click, decrease the gain and then re-normalise. Definitely something I'll be doing in the future before my final 'save' of the recording
