FS2 User considering Rane TTM57SL

Whats up everybody..
I've had finalscratch since 1.0 and on up to Traktor 3. I had issues initially with latency on FS1 but FS2 cleared all that up as you all know.
I recently started looking at a way to make my studio run a bit smoother in terms of ergonomics, so I start looking at studio furniture and I found this sweet dj desk from dualsf.com. It's made of wood and would be a permament type setup once I got it, it couldn't change without looking really awkward. My current setup consists of:
2x Technics SL-1200M3D's
1 Vestax PMC 05 Pro III Mixer
1 IBM Thinkpad Laptop
1 Finalscratch 2 Scratchamp
1 Korg KP2 Kaoss Pad
Now I start looking at my current setup and realize that with my current mixer, both my line and phono inputs are taken up with finalscratch / turntables.. I have no room to add cd players if I wanted. I like the whole battle mixer setup so I started looking around for another high quality mixer that might still fit into the same battle mixer form factor.
So I found the Rane TTM57SL. It's ranes new (yet unreleased) mixer with scratch live built in. It fits into the same battle mixer form factor and It has 4 inputs seperate from the scratch live hookup. So with this guy, I could have two vinyl turntables, two cd turntables as well as scratch live running.
What do you guys think of this? Its supposed to come out at about $1400 though which is kind of steep, but what I like about it is the extra inputs while keeping with the same form-factor of a scratch mixer.
Thoughts? :)

Good Move... make the switch, i was on FS since it was first released as on linux platform. Beta tested for them, even helped them with some FS presentations at remix hotel. If you go to the FS webiste and watch their demo video on FS 2, thats ME in the video. I switched to SSL a year ago and cant be happier!

So it sounds like I read the product page correctly and that it does everything I stated.. i.e. additional inputs with scratch live at the same time while sticking to the same battle mixer form factor.
in terms of ssl vs fs.. i've heard alot of good and not really any bad at all fom the ssl side. I'm satisfied with the latency (not any really) of FS2 so hopefully I won't see any of that if I go to the TTM57SL. I was a bit concerned about it staying usb 1.1, however apparently they're doing alot of the audio processing on the DSP chip within the mixer and that not all of the data actually has to make its way from/to the computer and back.

it looks like the only thing it doesn't have is an external effects loop i could hook my kaoss pad up to?

romerom,
The TTM57 will do everything you need, also it does have an FX loop, on Rane mixers this is called the FlexFX.
Don't worry about the USB1.1 there is plenty of bandwidth available and none of the hardware issues that can occur with firewire.
On top of this the TTM57 can be used with tracktor over ASIO. It also has on board effects so expect your Kaoss to become redundant.

I just checked out the manual and feel like an idiot for not seeing the flex-fx inputs/outputs on the back of the mixer :) I guess the only thing I'm wondering now is how to control send/return levels? regardless tho it looks like I am DEFINATELY getting this mixer :) @!#@!#@!# I CANT WAIT!@#@!#@!

ya man I just ordered my desk - I picked the dual pro console that comes with the two cd player stands.. also added a laptop stand, two monitor stands.. modified the bottom portion to have one of the record sports set aside for rack mounting equipment.. also they threw in a shelf for my finalscratch scratchamp right beneath the mixer tho I might not end up needing it for too long :) turn around time is 4-6 weeks, but if you order yours, mine might take longer so hold off for me, eh? :)

I just called Ellen Allhands from Rane to ask about the dimensions of the TTM57SL. I got her # from the contact list, she's the director of customer service. She stated that the dimensions of the TTM57SL are identical to the Empath except that the Empath has knobs on the front of the mixer and the TTM57SL only has jacks so it makes the TTM57SL .5" smaller. Looks like 13.5"H x 10"W x 4"D.

i haven't told her either.. but i figure i could sell some of my existing finalscratch related items..
Rane Mixer - $1495
- Finalscratch 2.0 - $485
- Vestax PMC 05 Pro III - $290
- Traktor DJ Studio 3 - $120
- Traktor DJ Studio 2.6 - $120
-----
$480
Just estimated item values based on what I just saw on ebay.. but if I end up pulling anything close to that, the TTM57SL will have cost me roughly $500 :) That I _CAN_ justify...

Those bastards bent us over and f&*#ed us over and over in the ass. We have every right to hate them. The least they could do was give us a refund for shit that did not work and apologise for the inconvenience. They still have a chance to do that, but they choose not too.
Should they do that, they will never hear from me again. They deserve every kick and slap they get.

I can't really defend them at all when it comes to finalscratch 1.. I've haeard of stability issues with finalscratch 2 I just haven't experienced them myself.. outside of one horror story that I think I could have prevented...
though there was one time where I was in a jam and had to reinstall the driver for the scratchamp on 2.0 only to find that it did not come with the traktor FS software and was a seperate piece of software.. not only that, but at the time, it wasn't publicly available on stanton/ni's web site. The only place you could get the driver was from the software cd that came with the package or by calling support and having them email it to you. I guess I should have tested my stuff the day prior to the gig but it had worked for me before.. I ended up having to go between iTunes MP3's on one side of my mixer and iPod MP3's on the other side of my mixer after I ran out of the backup records I brought with me. embarassing! I complained to their support and I didn't get a good response initially, n.i was pointing at stanton, stanton was pointing at n.i... anywys, the driver package is available on stanton's fs website now but that didn't help me then.

Using FS2 right now with Traktor 2.6 and starting to really really hate it. Tons of embarassing audio dropouts and skips when scratching. I've gotten to the point, where I started mixing completely in software, because of FS2 lockups when using vinyl control, and that kinda defeats the purpose of the setup and really takes away from my performance. So, was going to get the regular Serato, but now that this is out, definately getting the 57L, I have made up my mind. Another soon to be former FS2 user and (hopefully) happy Serato one.

i've actually been using fs2 the last few years without a problem, altho its been with traktor and not just fs2. traktor has been the saving grace with me for the scratchamp2 and thats why i haven't switched.for some reason or another the finalscratch2 engine without traktor is a b**ch. having now played with the ttm57 i can safely say i'd like to switch but i'm missing one "key" item, the ability to lock the master key. everything else seems to be implemented that i need and the fact i don't have to break out that scratchamp everytime i play would be a blessing.at first the buttons and the new interface on the mixer was a bit overwhelming and i think it can still be better,i got used to it in no time.
if you got the cash and are just using fs2, then you should definately make the move.

ttm57sl with scratch live is awesome compared to fs2. There really is like zero latency and the interface is sweet.. if only they made it to where you could tap tempo with the button or the footswitch and have it write the tempo the tracks bpm field.. that would be the shizzle.

yo romerom, if u haven't yet done so, cut and paste your suggestion here --> www.scratchlive.net i'm sure tha ssl team is capable (unless they've already developed auto beat detection into tha next release)
