Help with VSL for Dell

So I have a Dell Laptop. I use the software IMtoo DVD Ripper Platinum to rip my DVDs. I am trying to find the best format settings to rip the DVDs so I do not have any USB lags. Anyone have any suggestions. I know a Mac is ideal but I do not have the $$ for one right now.

u should use a firewire drive instead of usb. it'll definitely get rid of usb lags.
