That would be cool. I wonder when Serato is gonna jump on the opportunity to make a lot of money selling all types of white, pink, glow in the dark, etc vinyls??
djchrischip 7:00 PM - 13 March, 2009
after the last pair of 400 dollar whites sells they will mass produce them

hey konix i had a certain question,
if i wanted to press my own serato vinyl is that legal? i don't want to hurt rane or serato by "bootlegging" but if i was to want a color that isn't produced (or mass produced) n can't get them is there any way i can press my "own" vinyl?
djwhezzy 1:55 PM - 16 March, 2009
sounds hott
djcrap 2:44 PM - 16 March, 2009
i think rane should open up another market line of customized serato vinyl or ttm57 plate

like you could go online and create your own
1 color,
2 select your own picture to be put on the vinyl label and dj name, vinyl markers where you want them to be placed ( basically lets say the record is clear you could have the option of requesting rane to press in a blue vinyl marker like a circle or an arrow at 12 or 6 o clock etc

3 they could also extend the same market to mixer face plates

that would be cooooooooool!
charlee1985 6:39 PM - 18 March, 2009
+1 that wud b awwssomee

+1 on the glow in the dark vinyl!

@djcrap, as awesome an idea as that sounds, it is actually impossible - if it were, don't you think that all scratch vinyl would already be marked to show where beats/stabs are? have a look on youtube for a video of the vinyl manufacturing process, it's an awesome watch!
BERTO 11:57 AM - 3 May, 2009
i think serato would allow it i know you can download the tone and urn it on a cd wouldnt that be the same thing i think its when u make a profit off of it that it becomes infringement
BERTO 11:57 AM - 3 May, 2009
"burn a cd"
AKIEM 4:26 PM - 3 May, 2009
it not the same

so are you saying that burning a cd is somehow more (or less) legal than pressing your own vinyl?

It is not.

The part where it would get illegal would be when you start selling it...

Those are the facts.

Of course pressing your own vinyl is a bit more expensive if you don't have the equipment ;)
AKIEM 6:34 AM - 5 May, 2009
its not just when a profit is made

pressing plants are not supposed to aid in bootlegging
Im not exactly sure about the law part, it could just be contractual and libel with the big powers that be. But manufacturers can be found liable for aiding in copyright infringement. most wont do it.

the difference is like the difference between one joint and a twenty pound bag.
intent to distribute is implied (even if you planned to smoke all that)

It is legal to make a back for whats been licensed for your use. its kinda difficult to argue that 1000 pieces of wax is back up for your personal use

so, its not the same
DJ Johnny Braciole 7:33 PM - 5 May, 2009
thats sounds pretty sick....glow in the dark vinyls? lol

You are right, in THAT case (pressing such a number is a bit borderline, LOL)

I was referring to just doing one copy of course... :)
Culprit 5:24 AM - 14 May, 2009
Damn, i hate those glow in the darks. I used a pair and they were too thick for me. My uncle has a bunch of those.
ryansupak 6:06 AM - 15 May, 2009
I've had some bootleg Serato control records pressed. (In my case I had records pressed at -14%, for my personal use only.)

I called Rane to ask if it was OK before I started and the response was "as long as you don't plan to sell them on the open market it's fine".

So, it's probably technically illegal but Im more worried about being hit by a truck while crossing the street than getting sued by Rane.

Rane won't sue you - the copyright on the Control Tone is owned by Serato.
Please don't make bootlegs of our Control Tone!

Rane and Serato are being very slow keeping up with DJ's desires... where is the glow in the dark vinyl? where are the custom TTM57 covers?... they should have headphones out by now...I'm a loyal Rane user since 1986!!
Sporadik Styles 9:30 PM - 24 August, 2011
+1 for glow in the dark/blacklite and more colours for control vinyl.
drukenhard 12:22 PM - 29 August, 2011

I need a pair of white serato & the glow in the dark if available. C'mon rane/serato you know we asking for these things, get in the lab and make it happen please. And make the price reasonable like the other colored serato vinyl.

Being Serato has been out for ___years now. I've always wondered why there aren't more colours or especially SOLID colours
DJ TeeOh 12:54 PM - 29 June, 2012
I have glow n the dark, fluorescent, marble, black & yellow, solid white, and Public Enemy timecodes….. none of which were provided by Serato. What the hell Serato? But then you sue other companies for making products FOR Serato? Like TCV. Hell, why not just buy them out or hire them to keep doing it. Less work for you and more products to sell.
DJ Dub Cowboy 8:20 PM - 30 June, 2012
you mean so other companies can make a profit from Serato's research and development?

So =O

If Serato licenses the company or encompasses them AS Serato…. then they save time doing it themselves, they same time/ money hiring people, and they save time/money advertising since the company is already known. Serato would just make MORE money. Customers would get what custom type stuff they want and Serato steps it up a notch. It is about time Serato finally did something the customers want. Adding a few effects and minor features doesn't mean SH*T when companies like VDJ, TORQ, and Traktor are offering way more customization and features. How is it VDJ is soooo much cheaper but much more user friendly. The least Serato can do is give us some customization options and unique vinyls. Coming out with more mixers and interfaces is great, but the software is where the power really lies. If VDJ had the amount of quality products out that Rane does, Rane would be in the number 3 spot for sure.
DJ Dub Cowboy 2:14 AM - 3 July, 2012
seems to me like Serato is stepping it up with the new performance series vinyl. The GIDs were in the making for over 3 years. So that means they were listening back then and they made the effort to get it done right.

Hopefully, they deal with more of the production of the vinyl, which will result in quicker releases, more consistency, and higher quality.
