Anyone use LCD screens of tripods for mobile gigs?

dj hes 5:56 PM - 11 March, 2009
Might have been covered before, but here is the deal:

I am wanting to invest in a couple LCD TVs for my mobile gigs. Does anyone know of any stands for these and pricing? i am hoping I dont have to pay a ton for em, and I would want them for 2 42" LCD TVs.
dj hes 5:58 PM - 11 March, 2009
I basically hav a projector and screen, but it is such a pain to set up during portable gigs because you have to consider daylight, throw distance, angle, etc etc. and it looks like crap having the projector sit out 10 ft and people bump it all the time. Time to step it up a little..
djbigmark 6:09 PM - 11 March, 2009
why are u putting the projetor in the front. Put it in the back and you will be ok. but anyway the pedestal and base you need for the lcd is about $500
nemix 6:16 PM - 11 March, 2009
Spend the cash on a fast fold screen and project from the back. Would be an easier setup (I think) and no one would bump the projector
dj hes 6:22 PM - 11 March, 2009
The problem with the screen, it would still not be visible in lighter environments?
dj hes 6:23 PM - 11 March, 2009
And a rear projection screen would be dope, but it costs like as much as a 42" LCD TV would cost me.

you have to spend some money to play with the big boys!

I would recommend going with a projector and portable screen. I do have large LCD's that I mount to vertical box truss. But, I hardly ever push to use them since it's a lot of extra work to transport and setup versus a projector and screen.

I just bought two of them from Circuit City during the store's last day for $50 each. They had about 6 of them and no one was paying them any mind.

I also have a pair of Premier double sided stands (put LCDs on each side). I use this for Bar/Bat Mitzvah video games during the Cocktail hour. Those stands with the mount and tray cost me about $600 each.

The circuit city ones are not high (maybe about 6 feet) but they are super lightweight and easy to mount.
My Premier stands weigh a lot.

Go to Circuit City if they are still open in your area.

I have already sold having an LCD with photo montage during wedding cocktail hour. Two of my LCDs have built in DVD players so it shouldn't be a problem.

I would like to have 4 60" LCDs behind and above the DJ in the future. I've seen the Pioneer booth set up like this and it looks great.

what about a crank stand and an lcd? is that safe?
dj hes 9:17 PM - 11 March, 2009
I already have a projector and screen, but even if I got a rear projection screen, I would still have to figure out logistics when setting up because I would need a throw distance. Now when you are usually set up in a corner or against a wall it jsut doesnt seem worth the extra money to buy a screen that you still have to figure out how to set up every time at every location.

I would rather have the option of both the projector and screen AND plasmas becuase I woudl rather have more to set up and to have it look right than to have a setup that looks forced.

I also mount the stands on each side of the DJ setup for music videos (With one TV per stand of course).
I don't think I have pictures of that setup but I'll look.

Damn CC already closed, I didnt see anything when I was there though. I like the idea of setting up 4 of em around you, that would be a dope setup.

Thats dope man! If you can find a pic for the dj booth that would be sweet.

Those stands look perfect, I need only one sided mounts though

I was thinking the same thing, but like a speaker stand tripod?

I would think that I could have someone make a brace for a tripod + a LCD mount to connect them together. It seems like this would be an alternative??

This picture shows the 4 60" TVs behind the DJ (this is what I want)

Something like this is what I am wanting to do, i swear I could jimmy rig a regular speaker mount for this....
Kenny Q 12:01 AM - 12 March, 2009
That thing looks like it will tip over.

for a small 13" or 19" max, sure...but not anything bigger.
dj hes 4:38 AM - 12 March, 2009
it looks like the base isnt expanded as far as it can go though? I am looking for 42" LCDs, you guys may be right it is too small. I have to figure out f I can make a speaker stand work.. I mean they hold speakers that are super heavy.
skinnyguy 8:50 AM - 12 March, 2009
but compare the center of gravity for a speaker compared to a very wide lcd. i feel that the lcd would be a lot easier to tip, even if it's lighter and the legs of the tripod are spread further out.

as far as my idea with the crankstand, i was thinking of a heavier duty crankstand with legs that fold down vs spreading out.
FunkyRob 3:26 AM - 13 March, 2009
I saw this.....

Watchwww.youtube.com

Monitor is just a computer screen, so It's a little smaller.

Maybe put 2 o-clamps on top of each other for a larger one.
Kenny Q 3:45 AM - 13 March, 2009
I could use that Best Buy mount to mount my PTZ Cameras.
Does anyone know how to look something like that up in the internet?
