WOW nice find when power was the shit and "LA's Party Station" good old days

HA! This mix is even older than that. At the time I record this mix, Power 106 used to "LA's HOTTEST MUSIC."
This used to be their stickers back then.

Nice Woody!
Back when I was just 18 (early 90's) I used to religiousy listen to and record the weekend kick off mixes. I used to drive myself nuts trying to figure out how he could mix so many songs at once AND what versions he was using because I would pick up the same records at DMC or Exodus and they were all different than his.
Then a friend told me "ya know, he does that all on a 4-track". Thats when I learned what a 4 track was--lol

Ha! Exodus was the shits. Everytime I went there I also went to Strictly Underground Records and Tuff Guys. Man, remember when all the radio jocks used to work at record stores? Didn't La Rok used to work at Exodus?

Yeah-- I think he did for a while. My go to spot was World Records in Alhambra (ever since they were based out of that little warehouse) LaRok used to be there all the time but I think it was more because he was related to the owners (forgot how). He was a cool dude! Always willing to chat it up with ya about house and always opinionated about the state of dj'ing-lol.
Working at a record store was probably the best job you could have in LA if you wanted exposure as a dj--way better than playing at any club.

I played with Michael last summer. He still loves house, but like most of us, he's now playing mainstream.

AHHHHH YEAH!!! Norwalk Records. When you couldnt find those old disco records or out of print 12 inches---you could head there as a last resort and usually find one in the bin somewhere.
I'm really scared for them because I cant imagine they can hang on much longer given the state if digital dj'ing. Fucking shame! I was out there as recently as mid last year looking for more hard to find gold and to just take a lazy Sat afternoon and have fun tucked away in a record store for 2-3 hrs.

Exodus for KROQ/DISCO flashbacks (compliations) and Auga Boogie records
World Records-- for good ol' domestic House
DMC records in Hollywood for imports and a few remix services

I think the fact that many of us were looking forward to the fun, unpredictable sets that characterize "12 Days of Mixmas" goes to show how tired we are of their daily programming.

Are there any other decent hip hop stations in LA anymore? I used to listen to Kday 93.5 but that got changed to something else recently. 92.3/100.3 the beat are gone. So anything besides power106?

Damn...this post is bringing me back. I really miss those trips to the record stores to just pick up the weekly picks, dig, and just chat it up with other DJs and chill. I used to go to World Records ALL THE TIME. Now it's an accounting office or something. So sad to see them all go.
I remember Humpty Vision and Arte the One Man Party did a CD release party at my High School Dance with Power Tools. Those were the days. LOL

I give KGGI 99.1 a listen on Monday nights at 8pm. They usually play some old school sets. I'm not sure if it's every night or just Mondays.
Also if you listen to 102.3 KJLH on Saturday nights they play strictly old school party music.
