i thought it looked pretty basic and i think you'll find the same thing when you actually sit down and attempt to get some real work done with it.
i too used to think that volunteers, in their spare time, could create an application equal to FCP in capabilities. the time=money I wasted trying to prove that,... made me look like the stupid one.

people also seem to realize that fiddling around with a free app for 40 hours trying to get it to work right,.. is only free if your time is worthless. my time is not.

I'm trying to see if I like doing video edits first, if its worth my time, money, etc.... I don't want to shell out $600+ on a program if video editing is not for me and I don't like doing the torrent for programs thing. Buying FCP, learning it, and then realizing its not for me would be more of a waste of time and money than fiddling around with a free app for as long as it took me to get comfortable with it.
Swift you use FCP for more than video edits yes? It would make sense for you to feel like that but not everyone is on the same boat your on.

I hear ya Demon. Sometimes I am the same way with software. Like for example, I really want to learn Houdini but it's $10,000 for a network version!

so yeah, I hear ya. I'm not gonna drop that much money on anything unless I know it's what I need.
but for me, FCP Studio was a no brainer. I did enough research to know it was the right move for me.

Seems to me that the 99$ version will allready get you very far. And if you don't want to spend any $ at all, don't forget Blender!
