Videos look grainy

I am new to this video SL so please have some patience with me.... My videos look very clear and sharp in the small windows, when i enlarge full screen on to my 42" flat screen, some look very grainy and newer videos look pretty decent although they could look better... any ideas what i may be doing wrong or how i can improve the picture quality? I tried the wide, ,4.3, 16:9 stretch, zoom, preserve etc..and no improvement. I notice that on the info goutput window, it reads 1920x1080 (not sure if that means anything).

so this is normal then??

yeah looks better on some lcds than others trust me on that. Also the older the video the worst but your conversions might be an issue as well. How are you converting your vids..

also VSL needs improvement on the video output quality.
I did tests on this in the past and found that Virtual DJ beats VSL hands down in that department. Played the exact same MP4 video file on both applications and you couldn't tell the difference in Virtual DJ with playing the original VOB and the mp4 video.

not a laptop though

Well I believe the laptop would need the quad processor but the intel extreme is the one I want but hell the processor extreme for desktop alone is a 1000.00 but it runs 6gb of ram...it would be rather expensive.
