Ok...if u know me I'm far from a hater...I don't even tell people what I DON'T like..I respect anyone who wants to be a DJ of any kind...u don't have to be a super great dj...just try...but the 1 thing that I will absolutely HATE ON IS FAKING IT!!!! My good friend and Great Dj @skratchbastid saw these guys playing there whole set internally on there computer and were FAKING turning knobs and searching for songs while there whole set was PRE RECORDED...NOT COOL TO ME...How would u feel going to a LAKERS Game n finding out they were faking...or Jay Z n Justin Timberlake faked there tour??? Djs including myself work too hard to except this and I wanna personally say...NOT COOL @DVBBS...u guys may make great tunes but FAKE DJING IS NOT COOL!!!!

Alright. I gotta call it like I see it. @DVBBS faked a set last night. Pretending to turn knobs, pretending to search for songs on Serato

It's just so wack to me. If you're a producer and you make tracks, find a way to showcase them that doesn't involve infringing on an artform

People gotta know. I know too many DJs who dedicate their lives to this to have kids coming up lying to the crowd. A line has to be drawn.

And if we don't call it out, then young kids & kids who are at their first DJ gig will never know. We can do better.

I'm proud to say I don't know who DVBBS is.
phonze 3:20 PM - 26 August, 2013
Me neither, and apparently they're from where I am. DJing is so easy nowadays with auto sync and wave forms all right in front of you. Why even fake it?

now we all know who DVBBS is though..
O.B.1 5:28 PM - 26 August, 2013
I only just discovered them after researching a couple of music groups I am opening/providing sound and lighting for. The groups are featured on the "Twilight" movie soundtracks and apparently DVBSS produced a remix of one of their singles. Decent production but when they go to such great lengths to pretend to search for tracks, that is laughable. They were even faking their "Serato Face" LOL
skinnyguy 6:52 PM - 26 August, 2013
Maybe they had a premix because only scratchlive was available at the venue and there's no automix on it.

And you can count me in as another person that didn't know who they were until now.

You haven't really 'made it' till you're being discussed on the SSL forums.

I also have never heard of them until now.
Thundercat 10:47 PM - 26 August, 2013
Oh wow. Just checked them on Beatport. Just reinforced why I don't go there for tracks if that is #1.

I just did the same. Wish I hadn't.

You know there's something wrong when music produces anxiety, anger and boredom all at the same time.

*** SO IT IS OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED!

*** THEY DON'T WRITE OR PRODUCE THEIR OWN MUSIC EITHER.

How did they get their names on a number 1 Beatport track?...
What the heck is going on??? I don't understand what they are???

something is spooky here.

shakes head... loses hope...
Mr. Goodkat 4:37 AM - 27 August, 2013

I've heard quite a few people state that Beatport is as corrupt as anything else in the music industry...and that's pretty corrupt LOL.

I have no idea why, on their own merits (even if they were actually producing their own stuff) they would be "popular". Totally boring, ordinary, formula "EDM".

Then again, a lot of people didn't get how the one Vanilla Ice song blew up in 1990...boring and as much of a lame hack-job as that was...

I'd never heard of these clowns before this thread, maybe this is all a self-flagellation-style publicity stunt.
djdalite 5:39 AM - 27 August, 2013

EDM is dead.

I can only hope and pray that it does. Clubbers want that rap crap back. Here in Milwaukee (small city, insignificant but whatever), clubs are starting to go back to the hip hop format and phasing out that 128bpm noise. 2 weeks ago, some dj dropped Nicky Romero and some other beatport type crap and literally got booed of the decks. Girls gave the stank face and dudes were like we dont want no damn techno.

Ravers, go back to your abandon warehouses and take your drugs and garbage with ya.

Blaim it on the rain :)
DJBlisk 4:52 PM - 27 August, 2013
Aren't there a bunch of EDM guys who do this?

Who cares at this point.

Button pushing is one step above faking anyways.
phonze 5:19 PM - 27 August, 2013
That's the thing though, it's so easy already what's the point in faking? It takes just as much effort pretending to DJ then to just play out their set normally. Not like they do anything special anyway.

Is EDM really dead? I think its just the cycle, some weeks I cannot play any of the crap some weeks thats all people want. D.C is weird like that and the clubs are totally segregated so that makes it even weirder
Mr. Goodkat 10:13 PM - 27 August, 2013
its not dead, but i was looking one of the more fairly large vegas casino/club music directors twitter and he was saying how rap was coming back. it was interesting because ive been following him for about a 2 years and he kept pushing edm.

its like anything thats pushed that hard, theres gonna be a backlash. even hip hop went back underground(sound wise) in the 90s after hammer and vanilla ice came out.

the younger, more bro types are listening to more bass type house(garage, bass house- whatever you wanna call that style with bass drops as the bassline ie DISCOLOSURE, dirtybird/breach/bondax) type stuff) and even deep house where im at. They still dig rap and trap, but i think the formulaic crap that edm has become with the big names(like this dubbs track) is on its way to the hs and middle school age groups.

I think edm is still prevalent in most big clubs, but it was bound to wear out pretty soon with the saturation level it got too with these festivals(although they are still selling out with the same tiesto, alesso, kaskade, lineups) . If you follow music trends, its like the trance scene of the late 90s early 2000s. or the hair metal bands of the 80s or the disco scene of the late 70s.

I've heard reports from several promoters around the country who can confirm that they just fake it every set.
DJ Jonasty 3:54 AM - 28 August, 2013
I should fake a set and have JJ call me out. I'd get mad publicity and could probably start doing gigs again. hmmm
