Fabio Sonatti's Encoding Settings

Culprit 5:58 PM 24 November 2008
I was looking for a better way to encode my videos, and make them ISOM so serato can store the metadata tags inside the container, and I stumbled upon this.

www.flashcomguru.com

inside that article, it gave a link to instructions on how to duplicate his settings in media coder

forum.mediacoderhq.com

It's HD streamed at Overall bit rate of 555 Kbps. The file used is File size 15.5 MiB and 3mn 53s, which is not bad. I would not recommend this live, but the flash demo is promising

HD @ 555 Kbps Demo - www.flashvideofactory.com

I will try encoding some of my vob's using these settings as well as modifying them to get the best quality with a smaller filesize. Can anyone else confirm using his settings?
D-Twizzle 6:38 PM 24 November 2008
nice find, very good quality for the bitrate.
Funkytownstopsix 7:12 PM 24 November 2008
I tried it like four months ago but couldn't get it to work and gave up. If you get it work let us know. It's crazy with Hi-Def,,, talk about stepping into some shit, Hi-Def has been nothing but a pain as far as converting to MP4. Fabio Sonnati defiantly knows H.264 inside and out, with that quality and size output he is getting some may call him Jesus.
Culprit 7:37 PM 24 November 2008
ok, will be posting a video soon

Culprit 8:41 PM 24 November 2008
these videos were done in two pass encoding, will generate three pass encoding, which was recommended fabio, one step i did not see. Will post results again.
Culprit 9:03 PM 24 November 2008
www.zshare.net - She_s_So Fly_555_birate_30_sec_demo_3_pass_fs.mp4 - 3.18MB

www.zshare.net - She_s_So Fly_3000_birate_30_sec_demo_3_pass_fs.mp4 - 12.15MB

If I were storing music videos on my laptop, and they were 5 minutes each at 30 megabytes a file, I would go the 555 birate route using these settings. It's not that bad, less stress on the computer as well.

I need opinions tho if anyone cares to comment.
Funkytownstopsix 9:05 PM 24 November 2008
say post the settings you used. or send them to me at big@i-20rides.com u did use media coder.
Culprit 10:47 PM 24 November 2008
www.zshare.net - fabio_sonatti_preset_555.xml - 0.00MB

im using CT-AAC+ so i can get 320kbps AAC, so you might want to change that.

itchie 9:20 AM 25 November 2008
I'm gonna give it a try tonight. Thnx!
Culprit 7:04 PM 25 November 2008
itchie, what did you think of the two 3 pass demos i posted?
Funkytownstopsix 8:13 PM 25 November 2008
U know the only thing I am thinking is how many videos I can have on my I-touch..
eder 10:31 PM 25 November 2008
those 3pass demos look LEGIT.
itchie 8:35 AM 26 November 2008
i downloaded the settings and ran a couple old and new videos through it and for the bitrate and size they look great. i think the settings i use for mediacoder are a little better(at the cost of higher bitrate and size) when i saw this post and looked at your samples i thought i was going to have to re-re-re-encode my whole library. i think i'll hang with what i got. *whew*
good find Culprit!

ps. to get em on your iTouch you'd have to change a couple settings :)
nik39 11:12 AM 26 November 2008
Which input file (original source) did you use, Culprit?
Culprit 5:37 PM 26 November 2008
Nik - i am using a vob file ripped from promo only.

Itchie - Yah I am not about to re-encode my whole file, but I might start using these settings for all my new vobs.
nik39 6:05 PM 26 November 2008
Hm....

I just rushed through the settings but is this really llimiting the bitrate or is this the average bitrate?
Funkytownstopsix 6:29 PM 26 November 2008
I didn't try it with vob,,,, I tried last night to render a mp4 to take make it even smaller. Audio would not mux and file would never complete. I will now just use vob. Medicoder is the shit,,,, cant beat it as it's free but if I could convert MTS to Mp4 then I would be in Hog Heaven....Anyone know of a free program that will do that post it please....
nik39 6:44 PM 26 November 2008
What is MTS?
Culprit 7:12 PM 26 November 2008
This was the recommended birate setting for a small file size and border line hd quality. I usually use 3000 birate, but I compared the 555 birate, 1000 birate, 2000 birate, 3000 birate and 4000 birate, and I couldnt really tell a difference after 1000 birate. the 555 to the rest tho there is a minor difference. I showed some of my employees at my shop, and one said "if your in a club, you wont be able to tell", but I can, which is the problem =]
Funkytownstopsix 9:23 PM 26 November 2008
MTS is a Hi-def format. I have a Hi-def camcorder that records in 1080i to an SD card. As of now I can only write them to blue-ray disk but in my playstion 3 I can pop the card in and play video on the spot. I would love to convert them to MP4. The video that Fabio Sonatti's use in the demo is of Hi-def also and he compressed that to 15meg with sound that's out of control because one min is way more than that in Hi-def....
nik39 9:35 PM 26 November 2008
Thanks.
itchie 6:28 AM 1 December 2008
I'm not a huge fan of the 3D denoiser setting though. It dosen't look good on older videos.
Funkytownstopsix 1:33 PM 1 December 2008
Finally got it to work I see that it's a little blocky. I decoded a 212mb file down to 33meg.. I then went back done it again and dropped sound down to 128 the file then went down to 15meg....No doubt I will be using this for websites and my I-touch but I won't be using it to encode my videos for VSL. That is until the profile get's tweaked a little more then I would consider. Now if I could decode a damn mts file with media coder without it locking up it would be nice. : )
itchie 12:21 AM 2 December 2008
what's locking up? What's the error message?
Funkytownstopsix 2:11 AM 2 December 2008
i get no message at all it just stops. Do you have a profile for MTS that I can try? maybe I don't have the right codecs that's what was happing when I tried to do the vob's had to download winamp before it would decode. yet it gave me a message so I knew kinda what I needed. this gives me nothing....
itchie 8:46 AM 2 December 2008
i don't have a profile for mts yet. i'll let you know if i find something.
Dj TopDonn 6:13 PM 16 November 2009
Does anybody use fabio sonnati's settings for a VSL profile? Seems like his setting would work well for Web/Flash Video but the video output sizes give me a little worry
DJ Sousay 6:39 PM 16 November 2009
Culprit,
Sorry new to this whole encoding game. To somebody who is just starting out can you please explain exactly what you are doing and why in simple terms?

From my understanding you are looking for a way to play your videos in higher quality which is definitely something I want to know how to do! I have thousands of videos and always wondered why some were higher quality than others but I did not know that you could improve on the quality?
Funkytownstopsix 3:22 PM 17 November 2009
Fabio settings are about file size and the fact that you can take HD and make it look good doing so. It is astounding if you ask me. Now I would not use it for serato persay but if you wanted to post some vids on a website that were nice and small in size that would be the way to go. The Bulk of your file size would be audio, try it for yourself make two one with audio the other without... Then you will understand just how ground breaking this guys settings are.
