Send video to plexiglass

Ok guys I need some help and I am sure somebody knows what I need to get. What I want to do is use a projector to send video to plexiglass. What I don't know is what type of plexiglass would show best for a projector, the projector would be behind the plexiglass not in front. I saw this at Frys one day but they wouldn't tell me what kind of plexiglass it was. What I would like to do is with this is use it for weddings having two projectors one each side. So basically it would be a cheap ass Big screen depending on the size of plexiglass I got. Smaller and even more compact than carrying around flatscreens, not to mention the wow effect. Stand could be made out of pvc and painted to look very nice. All I need to know is what type of plexiglass I need then im off to a new project.

Funkytown, I saw this also on an episode of pimp my ride a few years ago...(no jk) It didn't look to well because the plexiglass wouldn't completely stop the picture...it would go threw the glass also and reflect on the person watching the video. I imagine if frys is selling it they didn't have this problem? Wouldn't the plexiglass have to be super dull to stop the projector light from going all the way threw it?

Well the one I saw had a white looking flim on the back side of the plexiglass and it did look really good and very clear. It was not for sell they used it as a display. So the projector faced the dull white side of the board on the frontside of the glass was clear. To top it off you could see it from both sides really well. Made me rethink my game room set up. I mean how cool would it be to have a peice of plexiglass haning and from the ceiling and seeing the image on both sides. Yet in my case I would use it for weddings and even parties as it would be cheap and easy to set up and it would look just tooooo damn cool...

Oh and it did not come though the front which was sweet and why I want to try it. It was not frosted before someone ask.

you can use a bed sheet if you're on a budget. you can see the video on both sides.

LOL YOU GOT JOKES.....Come on Twiz I for sure thought you would know...Im not big money like you but sheet are out of the question. The plexiglass had something on the back that kinda looked like trace paper but it was stuck to it giving it the frost look but not frost. By the way not on budget and if you saw it you would try it too, looks like that Matrix's shit... Trust me this will in no way look cheesy when I do find out what it is I will post pic's along with video on how it looks.

Funkytown, u sent me a mission because I want a rear projection screen and here is what I found. They say with their specialize acrylic paint you simple aplly to any plexiglass and done, you have a crystal rear projection screen. I justed ordered it and I will put up pic of how it worked, They got alot of snapshots of their work very impressive.

I really don't get it...
What make this any different from a regular screen setup? I mean for the screen size you are looking at, wouldn't it just be cheaper to get a flat screen LCD display or something like that with a stand? With this, you still have to incoporate the cost of projector, cost of the projector stand, the cost plexiglass with stands and then you have to look at the distance behind the screen needed to project the right size image. Seems like more work than it's worth...maybe I'm missing something.

Nevermind...I just read that you wanted it because of the wow factor it would get. lol

Matt it would be a lot cheaper, think of it like,,,,,,,, this you get a projector for like 250 I mean for what we need to do S-vid so you buy two then buy some plexyglass and make those screens , keep in mind you can make them pretty much as big as you want and it would still be cheaper than buying just one LCD. Hell you can make one that is above the DJ stand or booth or your head. Really the only thing is finding what they are using for the plexiglass. You know all to well that any one of us can build shit cheaper than what they sell it if we have the means. Last it would be very portable and the wow effect. : )

Ok, the plexiglass would be cheaper, but could you really handle a huge size if needed. I'm just thinking if you have to display a size say like 80"...how would you handle that size with a plexiglass setup?? I guess what I'm saying is that I couldn't see myself getting a screen for just a 32" or 42" image when a LCD would be easier to set up and you wouldn't have to worry about the distance needed behind your screen to project a decent size image. These damn Vizio I have only weigh about 20lbs each so it's no that much of a hassle.
But like a said earlier...you just want it for the wow factor. Sorta like saying, "I know that Lamborghini only gets 5 miles per gallon...but do you know how much ass I will get when I drive it??" lol

Yeap you see my point matt +3 LOL... I have two LCD's and on Projector already so it's really not about the money but I do have a vison....I don't think I would want to do an 80 but if I did it would be tight. You are right about the LCD and Vizos are very cheap but presentation rules the nation in our biz we have to do stuff that others don't not just be a good DJ but come up with gimmicks or signatures to separate us from other dj's. Set up for two projectors would not take long people will see it and they will want it at their next function which means more money for me. Also I want to do something like that in my game room so that no matter which end of the pool table you can see it. Last thing I will do is make it touch so I can play chess on it, that's after I get back from the moon... : )

My bad Rebel I'm on it (THANKS).....see matt what my vison is... look at the big one. Now I'm talking big wedding produciton not the small ones LCD would be fine for small but you show up with this for a wedding then what. Like I said you can make it just about as big as you want or as small as you want.

4:47 PM - 20 November, 2008
Well, if you make it too big it won't be able to fit in your Lamborghini. lol
Let us know how much it's gonna cost ya and take pictures when you are done...I was looking for a another screen anyway.

I don't think so on the lens but I have set it up close and far with adjustments on the front of the lens, this is a learning situation for me kinda like coming over to video Djing and we all know how jacked up that can be. I know what fryes had was not this stuff on the ledstorm site so I know I can get it cheaper the quality was good enough for what I need it for. I sat there like 2 hours looking at while my mind was turning. If the cost is more than the trouble than this will be a dead issue soon. Yet in still cool stuff. I think I will try the stocking over some plexiglass thing and see how that works. The cheapest route to go.

You can try the type of material used with these...but that would kinda defeat the purpose of the plexiglass. I have one of these screens it does what it needs to.

How does it show with regular lighting? I assume 350 just for the material. I like it you need about 14ft for it to work work well. Hummmmm.. I like it I might just buy one of those.

It shows good but that will come down to the brightness of your projector. The screen thing is $250 by itself but you can get the truss to go with it and it comes to $329. It's not on the next level shit as the plexiglass but it works.
