Help! New Easter Egg in ScratchLIVE!

Just read it on Skratchworx... there seem to be an unknown easter egg in Scratch L1VE.
www.skratchworx.com <- click.
I wonder what this is (and how long this has been there for)!
Anyone got any clues how to crack this easter egg?
I tried to enter various things after clicking on the bpm field... (this is how you enable the Anti-trainspotter-Mode-easter egg):
"easteregg"
"serato"
"ableton"
"midiout"
"sampler" (this worked --- but it only triggered the AM mode)
"video"
"osc"
"help"
"gotohell"
"10 print hello; 20 goto 10"
"fuckyou"
"pimpme"
"holla"
"sync"
"crack"
...
no dice :-( This is driving me insane! Someone heeeelp.

i saw this as well nik, my head has been equally done in as well yours :(
its to do with loop rolling, whatever that means.... i'm guessing its like traktors seamless loop move feature? only speculating.

we've been over this one a while ago. you hit alt-t for the left deck and alt-g for the right deck. it will start a continuous roll. note: you cannot exit the loop by hitting alt-t or alt-g. give it a try, you'll figure it out

Yeah, I know about this one. But this is an old easter egg. I don't think that Skratchworx is posting a news article today to cover an old easter egg. :)

Hm..Let´s sum it up.
1.) "dig deep and find the thing"
2.) demoed by "Big Wiz" (someone already tried that?)
3.) loop rolling in bold
4.) It might has something to do with crates or subcrates (like GOR mentioned)

I think a clue is in the use of the words "the thing". Why not just say "it"? What are some "things" you "dig deep" for? Using the AM easter egg style of entering words, the following dont work:
treasure
clams
diamonds
booty
china
ore
Look at Konixs video. Notice there are no songs listed on the screen? Also the columns are all small as if he just created a new crate. Hmmm. Also there is no song in the crate so I dont think you have to add a song to the crate. My guess is create a new crate, or 2 or 10 and rename it something you dig for. but what?

i cant seem to find anything, but maybe someone who knows what theyre looking for might?

yeah..he coud have used "it" but wrote "the thing"
I noticed the empty crate in konix video as well..no song in it.
anyway he has a long list of crates, since you cant see the crate he is in right now (wich is normally highlighted orange) but the scrollbar. maybe "dig deep" means something like going deep down in your crates list.
I dont think it has something to do with a lot subcrates since you get a vertical scroll bar as well when using a certain number of subcrates. konix doesnt have a vertical scrollbar.

Im getting tired of going back & forth to scratchworx so ill post the story..
Those cheeky chappies at Serato do like to mess with the minds of their customers sometimes, but usually in a very nice way. This time it's another Easter Egg. I know what it is but do you? It was only released this weekend at the BPM Show and was demoed to me by the one and only Big Wiz. I would put it in the not easy to find category, but loop rolling is in effect in the current release of Scratch Live. But can you find it?
That's all I'm saying. Call me evil if you like but this is how I roll. So get yourself over to the Scratch Live forum and bug the living crap out of Serato until they at least give you a clue, if not fess up the whole damned thing. Believe me - it's worth it.
And just so you know - I got official permission to post this.

why??
Why? Cause I was using my 57. Notice it says mix, and it's not recording actually, just the level meters always light up. But you're grasping for straws there, it has nothing to do with the recording area.
Yep, everything you need to unlock it is in Gizmo's article. He practically gives it away. Though I and a few have know about this much longer ;). Also notice unlock in italics, unlocking is only the first part, then you have to find the secret keyboard shortcuts to actually do it. Muhahaha! Though, that's the easy part.
And yes, loop roll works in the offline player.

I agree.. its a cool novelty but really useless. I wish theyd spend more time making SSL more accurate. Compared to Traktor Pro, Serato feels like shit. If the interface on Traktor wasn't so cluttered and if i weren't afraid of change (no obama), Id already be on Traktor pro by now.

Speak for yourself, I and many others have been wanting this for a while. It's been suggested quite a few time in the feature suggestion thread. Now yes, I'm showing you the "cheesy" effect of this in my video by making very short stutter loops. But the bigger picture of this feature is that when you exit the loop it goes back to where the song should be if you hadn't looped. It may not be important for you hiphop DJs, which I know 95% of everyone here is, so maybe a "drop sampler" is more important for you, but this is a crucial feature for EDM DJs that loop a lot, which I am. Imagine looping a 16 beat sample, let that play 4 times, then exit the loop. You've now just seamlessly jumped back ahead 64 beats, skipping that annoying breakdown or vocal sample. Almost like the "track splice" feature, which has also been suggested a lot.
The short stutter loops is more of a gimmick of this feature and not the important part. Plus it gets old, and quite frankly, annoying after a while. Though I'm sure we're going to be hearing a lot of those stutter loops now.

1 I think its great, works well
2 was the main reason I was looking at a 909 over a 57
3 way, way, way easier to implement then a drop sampler

Ok...after this bunch of non topic related posts lets summarize:
1.) All the clues are in Gizmos Scratchworx post
2.) Probably you have to type somethin in the BPM panel (like the DJ AM Easter egg)
3.) Gizmo said GOR´s idea of creating a empty crate would be "warm"
4.) It works in offline mode as well
5.) According to Konix you first have to "unlock" it and then use the right shortcut to finally get it working.
7.) people tried:

bigwiz

And if you add a song to that playlist, you won't have to do it every time you start.
So, make a playlist called "this is how i roll"
Add a song to it.
Use ctrl+alt+number to trigger various lenghts of loop rolls. As long as you hold the keys down, it will play the loop roll. As soon as you let go, it will go to the point the song would have been if you had done nothing. Thanks serato!
Thanks to the spoilers too - I don't see how gizmo's post really helped too much.

Well it seemed to help a few people out who shared their knowledge.
In the picture, I mention "dig deep" - a direct reference to crates as a starting point. Then in the story, I as good as tell you what to call it - "call me evil if you like, but this is how I roll".
Have fun - it's a really cool feature. It does make you wonder what else could be lurking. And no - that's not a hint or reference so don't read anything into it.

The 1/8 effect reminds me of this one track that Mr. Hahn (sp?) made on Linkin Park's first album.
Can be a good effect when used in moderation. Could also be used instead of the Censor effect (censoring out the word "bitch" to make it sound like "bi-i-i-i-i")

Not if you're just doing simple 1/8 or 1/4 stutters for a second or two, but if you're skipping an entire verse or breakdown, yeah you kind of need to know where the song "really" is.

In House and EDM, sometimes you get those long Tiesto "Jesus Pose" string breakdowns (32 to 64 Beats or more), Would be cool to do the rolling loop and get past that stuff sometimes to get to the "meat" of the song (no Homo).

Make sure your songs have a tagged BPM. No BPM = no auto looping of any kind. Also make sure you don't have the "playback keys use shift" option checked in the setup menu, or if you do, then you have to additionally hold shift (or turn CAPS lock on) + all the other keyboard shortcut combinations.

I may have to upgrade to 1.8.2 and try the loop roll unless I have issues or my laptop can't handle it.

sopranosupasta: Alt+spacebar to tap the bpm works perfectly well.
I'll give it a try on my MB when I get home.
thats because you only need to hit the spacebar to tap bpm. you dont have to tap alt. for bpm tapping

Make sure your song has the BPM set.

This needs to be a documented feature. In fact I also need an ability to set this to midi controls. This is really awesome for most all of the music I spin.
Konix
9:26 PM - 22 October, 2008
It will be documented when it becomes an official feature in 1.8.3 or 1.9, it's not finished yet, hence why it's an easter egg feature. There's need to be GUI buttons for it, and yes, MIDI control also. Though you can get MIDI control for it now by using a MIDI to keystroke app like Bome's MIDI translator or MIDIStroke.

when do you actually "unlock" the egg?
when you make the crate, or when you load a song?
I'm not seeing this for some reason.

When you press enter after renaming the new crate to this is how i roll. Then the message pops up at the bottom saying its unlocked.

You don't have to put a song in the crate, just load it as you normally would and hold Apple(Control)>option(Alt) and a number for the roll after loops are enabled.

4:38 AM - 23 October, 2008
if u dont create a crate called "this is how i roll" and then put a song in it.. you will have to create the crate everytime.. so just put 1 song in there that way the crate stays.. empty crates dont get saved when you close the SSL..

I don't think you have to do that. Once it is unlocked, when you re-open SSL it is still enabled. At least it is on mine...

What happens if you hold ctrl + alt while assigning the autoloop buttons to MIDI? Seems like you should be able to skip bome's.

I'm guessing you're on a mac? apple + option + 8 toggles screen zooming with keyboard shortcuts: support.apple.com Why you need this tied to a keyboard shortcut though I don't know...
Using control key instead of 'apple' in the meantime is a workaround...
And things like this is why it's an easter egg at the moment ;)

I feel like this thing isn't working. It just seems to be doing the regular auto loop function. When I turn the loop off, it just starts at the end of the loop, not later in the song. There is a loop for each one different auto-loop length.
I have enabled loop roll mode. What am I doing wrong?

Okay, I think I figured it out - but do I have to hold down the loop button the whole time? The only other option I am seeing on here is clicking the loop button, which takes too much work (lazy). Thanks!

ok maybe its me but the combo of ctrl+alt+# sems off... since we have no way of locking out the cue points i am constantly stopping my practisce sessions to replace my cue points...due to the keyboard either not recognizing the complete shortcut or being to over excited....this has me to nervous to use live cause then theres no stopping and....well you can imagine.
once this is official can we please have some sort of cue point lock to prevent this (although a different combination would be great too)... but i feel a cue point lock similar to the loop lock would be more beneficial and have more applications....
any body have similar issues???
