Problems with VSL on new laptop

DJTaino 1:02 AM - 15 October, 2008
I am experiencing some problems with video sl and can't seem to figure out why. When I am playing videos it will work fine for a while and out of nowhere the VSL plug-in will stop working. It will normally reset itself once but the second time I will have to restart SSL to get it to work again. The video will show frozen on the screen but the sound will continue with no problem. I have disable bluetooth/wireless, antivirus and any other program that runs in the background.

Any idea why this is happening?

Here are my specs:
Dell XPS M1530, Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 2.5GHz/800MHzFSB, 6M L2 Cache
4GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 Dimm
256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
Microsoft Windows Vista SP1 Home Premium Edition

what's the movie batch info for the videos you play? Can you post them? I had a problem with certin files on my xps system.

Here's one of them, but honestly this happens randomly.. Like this video plays good all the time, but this is one of the ones that it was causing problems yesterday. This video is from smash vidz

Have you tried re-encoding that video yourself just to see if that would fix you issue.
DJTaino 2:26 AM - 17 October, 2008
No I haven't. I don't think is the video because I tried a friend's computer (XP) and it worked fine. It must be this Vista OS and I can't figure out why I am getting errors.

Do you think I should try re-encoding the videos?

Sorry, I did not read post carefully the part were you said random, but you also said that you had one vidoe that gave you a problem...

Here's a few things you can do. Un-install and re-install SLV, Check you video driver maybe roll it back if you updated it lately and or find another driver. Most often what I have found on PC side anyway is that the Video driver is often the reason why the plugin fails and or bad mp4 converting. Things have to be just right when it comes to PC side this I am sure you have found out by now..

I had same problems at least four times and these two things resolved my issues .... Try a few drivers from laptops2go that might resolve your issues. We have just about same specs my video card is 512 so you should be able to run it pretty well...Mine does. You could also use Dr.Watson or some kinda of crash log program to tell you what's going on so you can send it in to Nathan who is good at getting back to you for the most part. Other than that your on your own like the rest of us. I do have a few question when it is running does it struggle to do so have you looked at your resources, also what are you using for your 2nd screen s-vid, RGB,hdmi what?

FYI some smashvids don't play well on mine either but I only have like about 10 but I just re-encode them yes the quality will go down but I don't think anyone can tell. Hell your doing better than most as I read on the forums some people can't get it to work at all. I am thinking of downgrading to XP as I heard it runs it smoother, but it's time for an update so I am waiting before I do that....Mine works fine like I said only problem I have is my s-vid is not accelerated which make video and audio out of sync. hdim works the best, rbg/vga work just about as good. Anyway get at me if you need more help

Im having a similar problem with it crashing every so often. But i am converting directly from a dvd to mp-4 then to slv. Im still a newb at the whole video thing but what exactly do you mean by re-encoding.

Thanks for the info. When I run VSL it doesn't struggle and the output I use is HDMI.

Question for you, what do you use to re-encode your videos and what are your settings?

Media Coder PC app. I use some settings that itchie posted on the web. Do a search the converted works so so but on the real I think if converting for pc this is the best option....
