Ive been using FS1.0 for a long time now... ever since it came out the summer of 2002. I've had my Sony laptop for that long too... and lately my laptop has developed a flickering screen. I have this bad feeling that it's going to die soon...
I have two options:
1. Get a FS1.0 (ive tried TFS1.5 for mac and pc, no good, crashes) capatible laptop off ebay. We're looking at - at least $600.
2. Utilize the brand new iBook i bought for school about a month ago. It's a 12", 1.0gHz G4, 256 RAM, OSX 10.3.5 panther. This can be done with either SSL or TFS.
I tried using TFS mac version... and it was terrible. I can't even fiddle with the options without it freezing/crashing!
Question:
-Will my mac be compatible with the current version of SSL? Yes i know it meets the requirement, but so did a LOT of other FS laptops (if you know what i mean), will I have problems with it crashing/freezing/audio drops/pops/etc?
-Does SSL read ID3 tags? I have everything all tagged and ready to go...
I know i need the upgrade the stock 256mb of RAM on my mac... what should I upgrade to? will 512 be enough?
-When I browse my songs on SSL.. .will it look retarded like in TFS? (see picture here: trackiepro.com )
notice how even though I sorted the list by BPM, the songs that are named exactly alike, except for the comment, are apart from each other? Sometimes my instrumental and the main version of the song are 30 songs apart!!! The list should be able to sort by BPM, and then by whatever the user chooses.
-how do you guys like the sound of the SSL soundcard?
thanks...
Jackie

Yeah, thats still a problem within SSL. How do you want to make sure that same songs stay grouped together, automatically. If there is a determined way how to accomplish it, SSL's team could integrate that, for sure.
I really recommend SSL over FS, esp. FS1.0, its old and retarded. If you have the chance check SSL out at your local dealer, and you wont be disappointed. Check this forum for comparisons, pros and cons about SSL :)

I totally agree. And yes, it will work with the iBook. A friend of mine has the 800MHz G4 iBook and it works for him like a charm. and BTW, you won't regret switchin'. I did, and am very happy...

yeh, i've also used ssl on an ibook g4 @ 800 mhz and it worked fine so your 1 ghz will be decent. i think there's a couple users on here that use 700 mhz g3 ibooks...
the ibook i used had 256 megs of ram but it worked fine with ssl. ssl is not memory hungry, but os x def will like as much ram as you can throw at it. i would buy whatever you can afford. as always when upgrading ram, buy the largest chip that will fit in each slot if you ever plan on maxing out the ram--it doesn't make any sense to put 256 megs in a slot that could fit 512. having lots of ram to kick around in will speed up everything, especially if you start dabbling with audio and video stuff.
of course.

if you take the $600 you were going to spend on a pc laptop for the program, you could get a 1gb stick of ram and a 400gb external firewire hard drive for your ibook.
plus, once you go mac you'll never go back.

djtracki, haha. Check this forum, you will see devlopers etc. answering our questions and asking for feature suggestions. Ever seen that with FS?
