Streaming with TIDAL in the Serato DJ beta

The new Serato DJ Public beta is here and with it brings the ability to stream millions of tracks from TIDAL in both Serato DJ Pro 2.1 and Serato DJ Lite 1.1.

Serato DJ Pro and Lite users will need a TIDAL subscription to stream, and can choose from a premium or HiFi membership. TIDAL’s HiFi tier features high fidelity FLAC files.

What audio quality can I stream tracks from TIDAL?

TIDAL tracks are available in different bit rates and file types depending on the TIDAL account tier you subscribe to:

  • HIFI users have the option to choose between lossless FLAC streams with a bitrate of 1411Kbps, and AAC streams in 320Kbps or 256Kbps depending on availability.
  • Premium users have access to AAC streams in 320Kbps or 256Kbps depending on availability.

Will my track metadata (Cue Points, Loops, Flips etc) work once I save them on tracks from TIDAL?

Once you set cue points, loops and flips on a track from TIDAL the information will all be saved to your machine and next time you load the file (at either FLAC or AAC quality) all your information will be available.

Can I search for tracks from TIDAL in Serato DJ Pro and Lite?

DJ's can use the Serato DJ search bar to search music from the TIDAL catalogue. To do this click the TIDAL icon next to the search bar and enter your search query. local results from the ‘all…’ crate will be displayed first followed by results from TIDAL. You can tell which songs are from the TIDAL catalogue as they will have a small TIDAL icon in the first column of the library.

Do I need to analyze tracks from TIDAL like I do with my tracks normally?

When you load a TIDAL track to deck the entire audio stream will be downloaded. Once the download is complete Serato DJ will analyse the file quickly and provide you with track information such as Key, BPM and a waveform overview. All this information will be saved and displayed in your library for the next time you play the track.

Can I create and edit playlists with tracks from TIDAL within Serato DJ Pro and Lite?

TIDAL subscribers have the opportunity to create and edit TIDAL playlists in Serato DJ. Drag and drop TIDAL tracks from your search results or other TIDAL playlists to prepare new setlists without having to switch to the TIDAL application.

Can I record my sets in Serato DJ Pro with tracks that I am streaming from TIDAL?

You cannot record your sets while DJing with TIDAL tracks.

Can I save my tracks from TIDAL to be used offline?

At this stage there is no ability to save TIDAL tracks and play them while offline. You must have an active internet connection to use the TIDAL service in Serato DJ.
