Hello again! Can you all tell I am new to Serato?
My problem concerns the BPM detection. Last night I set my entire collection to analyze for the first time. Even though I used the "somewhere between this speed and that speed" function I still have many of my tracks not detected correctly by comparison to how competent the Traktor BPM Detection is.
Have I done something wrong or is the Serato BPM Detection simply not as good as Traktor?
Many Thanks
Tommy

Hi Tommy Mc,
So if I understand you right, the BPM values of SSL do not 100% match with traktor?

Yes, the ones in Traktor were spot on with the odd exception, the Serato bpms are all over the place

How do you know the traktor analyzed files are correct?
How much is the difference of those tracks?
Which file format have the most differences (mp3, WAV)?
Could you upload an example file and write down the value which should belong to this file?

The reason I know is the BPM from my productions are 100% dead on the BPM but some of my other files are not, the BPM grid on traktor is always tight, the Serato grid is loose

You can edit the bpm value manually if you think it´s wrong calculated.
Just double click on the BPM and enter the the new value and press enter.
You can also edit miltiple BPMs by selecting the tracks you like to edit, double click on one selected track, enter the value and press enter.
Can you upload such a track which is not matched?
What are the differences of those BPM values?
Just double click on the BPM and enter the the new value and press enter.

The main difference is the fact that Serato DJ has only one decimal place. I feel there should be 3 for ultimate precision, speaking as an experienced DJ i still hold the values of Traditional DJ'ing but I will not stand in the way of progress. Ultimate precision can bee far more valuable as the FX will better work with the track upon application for seamless interaction, the "Live Remix" capability will come into effect with much greater detail and professionalism to the FX added, as if they were done in a studio. Without precision the FX feel loose and amateur.
I have been very active on the forum since my purchase as you may know but I really believe in what Serato is doing but without pushing boundaries and taking the step from traditional feel to innovative leader, the future of Serato is uncertain as the wave of Digital Only DJ's who have never touched a Vinyl will flock to the competition.
I started on Vinyl and I love it dearly though i cannot hang on to its way forever, the DDJ-SX has brought me here and opened my eyes to Serato, problems there may be but i truly believe Serato could be THE Industry LEADER if its the company and its users stop hanging on the traditional values of Vinyl Mixing and simply improve upon them to keep the heart of Serato as it was when it first begun. As more people want to become DJ's the art changes quickly, Serato will not be left behind if the company and its users look into the future instead of re-creating the past on a digital platform. My work is guided by my motto, Create to Inspire.

Yo tommy,
i too have traktor and serato dj and agree traktor bpm detection is far superior.
when you set the range for your library say between 68-126 anything outside those parameters will be doubled or halved...so to correct those tracks, you have to set their range if you know it and drag and drop the track on the analyze button with the proper set range.it will get it right then.kind of a pain but it is what it is.
that works like a charm for me though i'd love for it to be as easy as traktor.

This is where experience comes in with Serato Live or DJ...most seasoned DJs can guess a bpm range of 90% of the songs out there.
A new DJ using serato live or DJ is def gonna have bpm problems and proper blending of tracks and will cuss out the software lol

After many hours today fiddling i am feeling way more confident with the BPM detection though it does have room for improvement which is why i would rather speak up and help out as a customer than silently moan and nothing be done which in the end effect me, the end user. Serato listens to its customers which is rare but wonderful!

Hey Tommy Mc,
We are working on development within this area. Sounds like the guys on the forum have been helping educate you on the best ways to get your head around our functionality and it's differences to Traktor.
Do you have any further questions you'd like me to help with?
Regards

Hi Dave, no i don't have any more questions, everyone has been very helpful and I have done a lot of experimenting and reading up on Serato and have become confident in how to handle the current way the BPM is calculated though I think there should be 3 decimal places
