I couldn't even finish watching that, lmmfao!! How do these guys even get work?? That's all I wanna know.............

And when editors throw out free video edits, it enables cats like this to lowball the proper dj. Food for thought.

Expert not really relevant in this case because most of those videos were tagged. Looked like Xtendamix or Promo Only.

And half the tracks they didn't even have a video for. I mean, who hasn't got the video for Billie Jean, FFS!
dj jamalot 3:25 PM - 7 January, 2013
wow i thought i had seen it all... liked the train wreck editing tho!
djpuma_gemini 4:41 PM - 7 January, 2013
there's a video for billie jean?

But seriously, that set was faulty on many levels. Minus the fact that those weren't even trainwrecks and more like explosions. I didn't really hear him try to ride the blends and more like some weird drop ins and beats were way off, the other thing is he's ruining the video game for others who do it right.
If you don't have enough videos to play a club/bar/casino set then you shouldn't play videos out.
The manager could see that, hate it and say no video dj's ever again because they don't play videos all the time.

The Video game here in Chicago is a very tight nitch. I can only think of about 5 of the top of my head that i know about and we all don't play video's all the time cause it concept hasn't really caught on in my area just yet.. But they more I can introduce it I'm doing it, I got a regular spot i convinced the owner to get it going there.. And I have had so many ask me could they get my video collection.. Which by the way took me two years to build up and I'm still collecting them... And I'm thinking why would I GIVE you my video collection so you can mess this up like the regular music game is.. other then the fact that I'm not going to just GIVE you something it took me two + years to build in 5 or 6 hours... And then to mess it up by playing like this guy in this video did and to have the same thing Puma just mention about turning Club owners away from having video's play in their venues.. I was out done when I watch it.. it took me a few times to watch it all the way through, but i did and it was a pure mess to say the least
Rick Hodgkins 5:23 PM - 7 January, 2013
Every time the train crashed I laughed my ass off.

This also sounds like multi deck loads and the pfl is live and he has the phones on and doesn't realize it.
Nobody knowingly does that shit live imo.

Bad Romance twice in 10 minutes? wowsers

Being in the line of work we all notice small to large mistakes. When I get a rare weekend to go hang out I try to ignore them and just have a good time. There comes a point that you cannot ignore anymore. This was that point. Lurking in the serato forums for several years has groomed me to try to be a perfectionist right down to the video's from ghosting, lip flap to exact resolutions. Then you see a night like this and you wonder about all the hard work and money spent to be a perfectionist. When it came down to it 95% of the people didnt care or notice. I literally had a headache by the end of the evening and the only way I could enjoy my time spent there was holding up my phone and recording trainwrecks. It is what it is. If anything this recording of trainwrecks in a full club gives anyone a feeling of great accomplishment in their own level of skill. I would have appreciated it if he would have just thrown on a premix and acted like he was mixing but I think I would have recorded that too.
Niro 7:20 PM - 7 January, 2013
Where is this club located?
ta2423 7:22 PM - 7 January, 2013
Longview, Wa. between Seattle and Portland.
Niro 7:27 PM - 7 January, 2013
Haha, I'm from WA. If you can, please provide the clubs info or DJ's info. I would love to book them.

Thanks
ta2423 7:34 PM - 7 January, 2013
Island Casino's Club 360. You want to talk to nobody but the owner.
djpuma_gemini 8:01 PM - 7 January, 2013
I think I know someone that has spun there before. Not gonna name names, but they're definitely 1000 times better than the guy that was spinning. I've spun at Casinos in WA (not this one) and my video sets don't look nothing like that shit.
djpuma_gemini 8:10 PM - 7 January, 2013
Here's his FB page.
www.facebook.com

But, I am not sure he was the one spinning.
Watch this video and you can clearly see he can cut.
www.viddy.com

Not sure what's going on, but maybe he or someone else was smashed so bad that they were that bad, or he let a noob get on the decks.
Niro 8:25 PM - 7 January, 2013
Not sure if I would call that cutting.
djpuma_gemini 8:39 PM - 7 January, 2013

ta2423 8:48 PM - 7 January, 2013
LMFAO... If you read the last post on the Facebook. That was about 11:59 sat. when something happened. This isn't an isolated rare night. This is normal lately.
Twist carries his own. IMO Minus heavy scratching over vocals, music choice and creativity. "Strictly about the paycheck" Friendly suggestion. If you are not representing whats going on. Take your name off the screen. Unfriendly suggestion. Never hand your tables over to someone that is going to get results like this. No matter what the issue was a remade mix was in order rather than this. Clearly by the Facebook posting this was actually lined up.
djpuma_gemini 8:54 PM - 7 January, 2013

djpuma_gemini 8:55 PM - 7 January, 2013

ta2423 I hope you went up to them (those guys pushing play) and told them how there set is going to be youtube gold! They might think that they are awesome however which would be even funnier.

Yeah at that time things were under some control.
People around here don't really appreciate a good performer. I had Deathtouch and Rex come through a few times too. Me personally, I had to get out of the drama and for some reason I would rather move around than be a resident dj anymore. I still want to make that trip to your side of WA. Portland has me booked overtime now.

I actually sent the video to the owner and begged him to make some sort of change. We all know when we get an occasional weekend night off we want to enjoy it. Im sure if anyones hungry and looking to make some money. This spot is wide open for much needed assistance.

Too far of a drive from Seattle though.

$200 for the most part. I have seen them pay a little bit more for some that travel. Thats when I had ahold of things a year ago. Its not a full blown casino, more of a card room style casino. Coming in from Seattle doesn't cut it once said and done. Gas, Hotel etc.
DJMark 7:41 AM - 8 January, 2013
Even just doing a video set without the videos for the two MJ songs and the Cyndi Lauper is pretty inexcusable.

What kind of amazed me is, through all the awful transitions and shit, people seemed to keep dancing.

Keeping your name on the screen the whole time in big ugly font? Really?

Only mitigating factor (besides complete wasted-ness) I can think of is maybe there was some kind of major fader bleeding or other mixer failure going on? One memorable episode I had with a Pioneer DJM-3000 comes to mind...
djpuma_gemini 4:15 PM - 8 January, 2013
^never thought of that. Imagine if it was fader bleed so everytime you went to cue something up you'd hear it in the mains.
Even then. I'd just mix everything with waves and drop the song in on the one and try to keep the beats from clashing.

So you don't agree with sites like blastvids or other similar sites?
Millz 9:49 PM - 8 January, 2013
Its not that I dont agree with it. Im all for people sharing each others REMIXED works....but when cats are simply making extended edits and giving them away for free...they are setting up and enabling if you will, lowball djs. I see things from a different angle than most. No one has to agree with me, and Im totally cool with that. But in the end, free sites attract cheap bastards who in the end would fuck over a properly paid/professional dj/vj by lowballing, or even worse djing for free.
djpuma_gemini 10:03 PM - 8 January, 2013
^I have to say I agree with Millz.
Millz 10:08 PM - 8 January, 2013
I cant wait for the day that some editor gets their gig stolen from them by a guy who downloaded all of their content they gave away for free. Im sure it has already happened. In many markets, it doesnt matter HOW good you are as a DJ, but it is all about the final number at the end of the year. If a club owner can make an extra 15-20k a year by cutting the cost of the dj, he/she will do it. In a heartbeat...even more so when the club is only busy once a week but is open 3x a week. Ive been in this business for 2 decades and Ive had it happen to me a few times, and Ive seen it happen dozens of times.

+1
phatbob 10:34 PM - 8 January, 2013
But if a person had downloaded every single video from BlastVidz since it started, that's not much of a collection.

The undercutters you speak of are far more likely to have bought a hard drive off Craigslist or copied files from a friend.

Soundcloud hadn't killed audio DJing, last time I looked.
Millz 11:05 PM - 8 January, 2013
As I said, I dont expect many to agree with my opinion....but its how I truly feel
DjBoozie 11:51 PM - 8 January, 2013
I know here in Chicago the audio game is fucked up.. You will have a cat who you don't even know come up and ask for your music.. now I don't want to perceived as selfish, but I do look at things like this... With as many dj's in my area the only thing that separates me from any other dee jay is the music i play.. However Video Mixing is still a untapped market and it slow going here, but for me to have a jump on the rest of a lot of dj's I would like to keep it as exclusive as I can.. now I spent the last two + years paying for and organizing my collection and I'll be damn if I just give it away and let any and everybody fuck it up with shit like this. There is no way this guy should be dj'n any where doing shit like this.. So i agree with you Jack. Since I actually paid for all my video it would be less then likely i would give them away to just anybody just to keep a bad dj like turn a club owner away from having it done at his/her venue
djpuma_gemini 11:59 PM - 8 January, 2013
That's why I rarely put out free videos and if I do, they're just some intro edits.
If I find a remix I like and make a video for it, guess who gets it? Me and me only.

Personally some edits should be shared amongst the people who do share here and there.
On that note, after putting years into a H.D., buying favorite edits from this site or that and the endless hours of downloading. I will be damned if Im going to hand over my H.D. to anyone. I don't know about others but I have a grip of money wrapped up into it. Better put that work in. Now you and I will notice and respect good edits compared to the joe at the club getting drunk and sweating a booty call.
In my case... Mills I always buy edits you put out and have been for several years now. I would be pumped if you put out a freebie every now and then. Its sorta like my shop. If a customer always brings his boat to me I am definitely going to hook him up when I can.
But thats my opinion. Everyone to their own. That goes for you too Puma. Matter of fact I probably have most of everyones edits all the way from yourremix days to what we have now.
Millz 2:47 AM - 9 January, 2013
One or two here and there is a great way to say thank you to the guys who support the editor/remixer etc...once I get everything up and running properly over here in Sweden Ill pop a freebee up on my fb page. In my life time = money, I just finished up a 15 hour editing day and Im spent ;)
Joshua Carl 2:47 AM - 9 January, 2013
remember the people that are doing this have no sense of DJ Ethics.

they have no quams acquiring their base collections illegally (be it blogs, friends, craigslist)
then further augment their collection with free services, video dj user groups, and whatever kind of back-door method they can find.

just as long as they can limp through the night, and make their $50

we have all heard/seen the examples of the guys with MTV logos, the horrendus audio and video quality.... these people are not the passionate people that most of us here are.
(passionate about the craft)

thre has ALWAYS...ALWAYS been bottom feeders, undercutters and unprofessional Djs.
its just before they were so instant, and abundant... and dare I say "bold"

Im in no way against any service/group that help forward the overall quality of our community. but at the same time you have to acknoledge the possibility there are a large people who are just going..."hey, free content! now i dont have to search for this on a torrent!"
Joshua Carl 2:48 AM - 9 January, 2013

In Canada that not legal. but theres a really good bowling ally service that streams videos and music and its really good. And they get videos faster than i would see them on smash or xtendamix.
djpuma_gemini 4:20 AM - 9 January, 2013
Everyone pretty much gets the videos around the same time, but to properly edit them and put them out takes longer for pools and sites than a streaming service that just streams the same file and doesn't make intros/remixes, etc.

I wish peeps at the club realized this. No I don't have the song that just came out yesterday and no Im not downloading it right now... Heres my headset, plug it into your iphone and there you go.
dj jamalot 10:07 PM - 9 January, 2013
You can get your dj bag stolen as I did with MBP 15 and beats pro and 2 1gig hd loaded with video but luckily I had a back up so some one out there has a realty nice video collection so beware it can happen to you some peeps can't bounce back like I did but hey back it up.
ta2423 11:14 PM - 9 January, 2013
LOL... I have 5Xs the back up on 3TB Hd's. I have 3 storing locations. Home, my shop and my storage. Im just about covered on that end no matter what. Personally two things never ever ever leave my site. My 17"MBP and my HD. If someones going to get them. They need to be packing, quicker on the draw and even then they better be ready to pull the trigger. Oh yeah and watch out for the 10 deep behind you.

I always have 2, updated working externals, a master of those on my desktop, and another Hd in another city that gets backed up every couple months, so if I wrecked an external at a gig and my house burnt down I stand to lose only a month or 2 worth of current music...
djpuma_gemini 12:20 AM - 10 January, 2013
I'll admit I only have one backup, but it's offsite.
If my gig laptop dies right now I can get the external and be up and running in a few hours, or even boot of the external and spin that way. I wouldn't want to do that, but I could if I had to.
DjBoozie 1:41 AM - 10 January, 2013
I have and have recommend to a lot of people that if they are using a digital source to have at least one storage back up that stays at home and never moves and is only used as storage and nothing else for the sake off primary hard drives taking a dump on them or dropped or stolen
ta2423 5:20 AM - 10 January, 2013
I take 2 duplicates to gigs just in case. I had one hd die on me right after a gig. Since I carry the backup with me I have had no problems. I know the second I don't take a backup Murphy's law goes into effect. Shit even locked my keys in the car 2 hours from home. Now a key stays in my gear too. Ive skated by with zero issues for 5 years. I know as things get older the probability rises. Thank the gods that Rane, Technics, and MBP's are built like Tanks.
dj jamalot 1:38 PM - 10 January, 2013
That was after a gig back pack in the trunk while havin dinner they got 5k in 5min trust me if they want it they will get it haters man they every where but my stuff was covered on my homeowners policy so I got all new stuff in 2 days ! Btw Chad....I'm booked at this club on the 15th and 16th. So please do me a favor and come in, if you aren't booked at the 150 cap Tavern down the street...

You are a f@cking joke. Posting this video then talking like your a professional. Last time I checked you will still dropping pre-mixes and tweaking the EQ and fist pumping.

Portland doesn't keep you busy, because you are aren't booked there. Stop fronting.

where did the manager get the videos?
who's comp was it?
why was their a dj name written across the screen?
how did it get there? who set up the gear?

someone set it up with some knowledge of something.
a manager with no experience just does not walk in and do that.
no manager of any venue i have worked with could figure out how i set my stuff up.

do the djs take vids from the club? vice versa?

djnak 7:26 PM - 5 February, 2013
so many questions....
Code:E 7:42 PM - 5 February, 2013
Just playing devils advocate.

At one point (years ago), my residency paid for all the music I played, there name was on the promo only contract. They have 4 subscriptions(and the DVD video one also), when i started there it CDs are what was played and they had Denon 4500's installed and a shitty rane mixer. I had no choice on what to play on. everything was installed and there was no room for anything else.
I eventually convinced them that they needed a computer. I had them buy a numark DMC2, DJio, and had them pay me to build a custom tower PC. I over built the shit out if it and started VJing with it. I used all of there music. I copied all of there music onto there computer (and use an esata drive for my personal music).

If the owner went and turned on the DJ rig without me there my presets would have come up, My logo would show up. My DJ name would be on screen.

Just saying there is a possible explanations for what might have happened here.

My first residency was like this. They sent me to HMV once a week to buy CDs and I got to put everything on their tab! In my case they also had some dusty old 1200s, so next thing you know I was buying my own vinyl too....

My fist gig supplied the complete library - on 45s! It was an oldies club (50's-60's) and they also had recommended playlists, but they did everything right, equipment wise. I was always fortunate to have top shelf equipment for most of my early residencies - never played on anything other than Technics 1200s and either Rane MP44 mixers or Urei or Bozaks. After those first gigs, while the Oldies concept was still hot, I was rolling into clubs with custom 400 disc 45 flight case.

It's too bad you aren't booked more, then you could get off the food stamps.....

GTFOH.

Mr. Im better than all Dj's I've been doing it for 15 years. Mr. Portland voted me best DJ. Get the d out of your mouth, wipe the cum of your cheek. You effed up Barricuda until they made no more money and had to close. I am booked in Portland and have been for awhile now. So who cares? Now saying Im mixing premixed cd's, twisting knobs and fist pumping is a tad overboard and deserves a thrashing. I make most of my own edits and the ones I don't I buy from the pools made from the guys right in here. The only fist pumping I have ever done was to your wife. Check the kids dna. Do you want keep going Brian Andrews or are you going to bow out?

Going to keep it short and sweet. The guy that started this thread was fired from this club. The guy spinning is a manager. The resident Dj got ill and had to take night off.

I call bullshit, Twist was there and has been most every time I ever showed up. Again never fired. You are trying to hard to offend me or something? You don't have to lie. The guy spinning is in the booth almost every weekend doing the exact same thing. Shall we drop more video? or shall we drop some video on you. Oh wait we don't want this thread locked just yet. They day you man up and talk crap to my face instead of shaking my hand and acting fake "might be the day I take you serious" Im laughing my ass off.
DJ Toasty 3:33 AM - 7 February, 2013
I agree the food stamps comment was out of line. But I stand by the other statements. I have my track record. I was sticking up for a fellow DJ that you were conveniently not denying or defending was the person in the video.

I'll be there the 15th and 16th, please come and video all you want. Maybe you could grab some tips?

Please post just one video edit, just one.....

Talk crap to my face? Like the time you came into my residency and flyered it with "DJ Toasty Bitch Dis Track coming soon!" (still waiting for that track by the way)

It's ok Chad, i'd be pretty pissed if I bought a bunch of equipment (3 setups now, impressive) and every place I worked at closed or stopped booking me.

We can keep going back and forth on here, but again I encourage you to come watch me the 15th and 16th.

I think I know someone that has spun there before. Not gonna name names, but they're definitely 1000 times better than the guy that was spinning. I've spun at Casinos in WA (not this one) and my video sets don't look nothing like that shit.

For the record that WAS NOT me on that video. I was not at the club. How my name got put on this i don't know. The person who posted this video knows who i am and they know that it was NOT ME . I have not seen the video and don't care to . I DO have a problem with people posting fake videos with my name on them ??

I dont have an issue with you and like a man will come to you face to face and let you know, as you know. Did you not read the thread? Matter of fact was it not Saturday that we had a convo on this? Was it not a few weeks ago I questioned you about the mixing going on? and what did you say? This is not a fake video. You were there your name is on the screen the videos are yours, everyone has a full copy of your HD and even peeps that dont spin yet have it. I've long since deleted your material many years ago. Im mean if theres an issue let me know and we can handle it.

Yeah still the bitch move roll... Dude I have been in your face numerous times. All you do is shake my hand. Your and idiot. What club has closed because of me? The Refectory in Portland? Ummm they are still open and moving due to the lease. Im still there. Its not my fault that when clubs hire the likes of you and it turns to shit they look for someone thats going to be captain save a ho. You are a tier 2 DJ. Yes I have 3 of everything. I wonder why? All three of everything gets paid to be played. Nobody has ever stopped booking me. These guys in here don't fall for the kinda crap you dish out. Mine as well delete your account before it gets real messy. I refuse to ever listen to you play. The last V.I.P. trip to barricudas had us leave quit early because of your skills. Now talking about closing what happened there? or The Hot Spot? or South Pacific? Were you not in charge of entertainment? and where do you get this Voted Portlands best DJ? Who voted? I can name a ton of cats that would crush on you just walking in the door. How about how you treated DJ Flip. He's a very cool cat. How about Proof? Another cool person you like to run your mouth on. Of course we can keep going back and forth and yes sooner or later you will bow out. You cant delete these posts and your mouth pretty much summed up your whole life. Crap. Don't try to back pedal and say you were standing up for Twist. Doesn't cut it. You want me to post a video I edited? Go ahead, its at the top of the forum. You can even download it if you want.

Chad,
I think you have shown your true colors here on this discussion. I don't have a problem with you, I've never worked with you and you haven't worked at any of the gigs/residencies I've worked in the past. As I explained in an email to you a year ago. I don't know what I ever did to give you such an inner hatred for me, but I'm sorry.

I do think you are a fake and a hack and continue to show me with your comments, postings and what you say to other people behind my back. If I remember correctly you have been a DJ for 3-4 years now? Respect is earned not given. If you feel I don't "respect" you enough, I don't. Your actions earn you respect.

This will be my last post, but I'm sure it will drive you insane not to have the "last word" So feel free to post away, with your words, and your videos that, oops, you don't have.

Like I explained earlier, I am booked the 15th and the 16th at this club. You are more than welcome to come by and video me if it will help you get some pointers.

Please be aware that when a potential company or club contacts you to perform to mention they can google Chad Stone, DJ Rains, Longview or your previous residency and this discussion comes up.

Way to keep it professional, Chad ;)

This forum isn't going to effect my gigs. Dude you don't know me. I don't want gigs from people that just google me. I want them from people that have seen me and word of mouth. Shit how do you even know who this is on the other side of the computer. Well it is. Like I said your mouth has gotten you in some crap again. Im not the one that just sits back and says poor ole me. My avatar says it quit clearly. Eh until we meet again. Oh wait now I know why you're mad. I didn't shake your hand the last time you saw me. I don't give a shit about having the last word on this forum. Its just your way of bowing out. I tell you what. Why don't you come down and visit me on the 15th and 16th Learn how I was able to accomplish what took you 10+ years in 1. C'mon theres five of you in the booth. You can take a break. Im only a mile away that weekend. What am I saying. Dude you are literally not man enough and Im calling you out. If you call yourself a professional that acts and talks with professionalism. I don't want to be a part of it. and Theres DJ Toasty "Portland's voted best #1 DJ" Now go scroll back up to the top and push play. This has got to be the best train wreck yet. LOL also hey looky here. I have a resume you sent to me for me to hire you to spin. Didn't you wonder why you didn't get a response back. You ready to bow out yet or do you wanna keep going? The club I worked hard on to captain save a hoe and decided to leave because of country and a few other disagreements. Is now the above train wreck.

more questions...
if you have not seen the vid how do you know it was not you?
so you saying you have not been to that club? someone look up and find out who djs there.
if you are like me, you KNOW your name was not on the screen when you play? (i don't do that much).
so this video was a setup, with some fake ass twist?

if someone did that to me i'd...i don't what i'd do.
"pissed" would be an understatement.

I say to scrap this beef both of you record a video set.
Or a set on video.
No battling unless you want to, but if someone called me out for playing like that an I wanted to clear my name I'd put up a video of me playing.
