Hi there,
To start with, I love Serato :) but for some occasions I like to play with Traktor:
- When I only have my laptop and a mouse with me allowing conitnuous play without controller
- When I use a very small controller not recognized by Serato
I'm using my iTunes library as main place to create my playlists and most of my files are AAC format. So no separate libraries.
In Serato (Scratch or the offline DJ) I set my hot cues and eventually loops for a specific song.
Next I open Traktor and I play the song.
I close Traktor and reopen Serato, so far no issue.
I reopen Traktor and add a hot cue.
I close Traktor and reopen serato and all my track info is gone.
Re-analysing files and no more hot cues.
I thought that the tag information used by Serato and Traktor were separate fields?
Could you let me know if this is normal behaviour or if this is a bug (Traktor or Serato)?
Someone suggested me to split my libraries but it would really be nice to be able to continue with just one.
By the way I tested this on my Mac and on my Windows machine (same version of Serato Scratch Live 2.4.3 and Serato DJ 1.1.1 and Traktor 2.6.0)
Thanks,
Gregory

Hey Gregge,
I appreciate the clear information you have provided. I can't say I have heard of this problem before, and I was also under the impression we wrote to a different tag than Traktor does, but to be honest I have not done a lot of investigation.
My first thought is, does this happen with all formats of files? mp3s? Does it ONLY happen with AAC files perhaps?
If you did the action in reverse, would the same problem happen?
1. Make a cuepoint in Traktor, then close it.
2. Make a cuepoint in Serato DJ, then close.
3. Open Traktor, are the cuepoints still there?
Let me know what you find.

Hey Martin,
Thanks for your answer.
I tested what you asked. In Traktor there is no issue after having edited (add a cue point) in Serato.
Before opening this help request I started a conversation on this subject: serato.com
After the reply of phatbob I tested the different file formats and indeed it seems only to be linked to AAC files. No problem with MP3 files.
After having changed something to an AAC file (add cue point) in Traktor, Serato will re-analyse the file. It seems like it sees it as a new track.

Hey Gregge,
Thats an interesting find. How many AAC files do you have?
I will log this as a bug as I am able to reproduce it, however I can't really guarantee when it will be addressed.
For the meantime I recommend that you either avoid using these files in Traktor, convert them to mp3 format, or try Phatbobs workaround of using a second hard drive for his Traktor library to avoid any potential conflict.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks!

Hi Martin,
Since Apple brought out there iTunes Match feature I replaced many of my MP3's by AAC files.
Let's say that about 60% is AAC.
iTunes Match is a great feature to have an "outside of my house" backup of my music.
So it would be nice to have it fixed, but of course I fully understand that you have to prioritise.
In the meanwhile I'll use a workaround.
Thanks for your answer

Just to through this in for you Gregge, it may be a Traktor + iTunes + AAC issue.
On my second Toshiba when I installed Traktor not to long ago and it jacked my library up,
I even lost artwork.
Now this isn't my Serato library or Serato Toshiba and I don't use iTunes with Serato.
However the combination of Traktor 2.5.1 and iTunes 10.7.0.22 with a 59GB library that was about 90% AAC was a ugly combination.
I hate to think what it would have been like if that would have been my Serato library.

iTunes Match is a good service indeed! Does iTunes Match allow to use the m4a extension instead of AAC?
Interesting you mention that Itchin_4_A_Scratch, although it does appear in Gregges situation it seems more on the Serato side of things?

All the downloads from iTunes Match are AAC with the .m4a extension by default, Martin. It's a wonderful service, I must say.
The same thing happens with .mp4 video files too (Traktor reads the audio part of the file).
Having read this thread I'm now leaning towards Traktor being the culprit here though...

Ah right, thats what I thought.
Hmmm, I have logged this as a bug for investigation, but added some notes and links to this thread. May be a tough one for us to address though!
