What do you bring to your gigs?

djang 5:09 AM - 7 April, 2008
I noticed abit of talk about this in a unrelated thread so i thought it was interesting enough to start a new thread about.

for my gigs here is what i bring.

Club Shows: (In UDG Bag)
- SL1 (or TTM57SL depending on what has been prior organized)
- 2x Needles in Hardcase (ortofons for the win)
- 2x Slipmats (Butterrugs :D)
- 3x Control vinyls (Always good to have a backup)
- 2x Control Cd's (just for backup)
- Deoderant (some booths are so friggen hot)
- Purfume (gots to be smellin fresh)
- 4x 5m RCA's
- 12" Laptop :D (has 200gb of mp3s internally which is more than enough for me)
- Laptop Charger
- 2x USB Cables
- Double Power Adapter.

Amazingly this all fits snug into my dj bag haha.

when i started off i never used to carry so much stuff but over the years of me playing at some dodgy clubs i figure its always good to have a backup.
djang 5:13 AM - 7 April, 2008

Depends on where it is.... for most of em now the places I play don't have turntables anymore, so:

2 x Technics 1200s
1 x Vestax mixer
2 x needles / carts (and possibly my spare set just in case)
1 x REALLY LONG phano to phono lead
2 x phone to jack adaptors
1 x pair of headphones
1 x laptop
1 x external HD
2 x control vinyl
2 x slipmats
2 x butter rugs
an assortment of "little to big" jack adaptors (you know what I mean, haha)

I basically take everything I can, because there's been MANY nights when I've been fucked by promoters / organisers / owners (NO HOMO MISQUOTE) by me turning up and them missing something, meaning that I have to go back home and get something else. And I ca't drive. So fuck that. hahaha

Where the hell do you get a search box from. Finally found one of those staple easy buttons, but the shit don't do anything but light up when you push it. Didn't make anything easier. A search box would be pretty fucking cool, how do you use one anyways?

I usually bring my nap sack with 2 Ipods and 2 1/8" to RCA cords. Don't need a power supply, because the Ipods last for like 10 hours on one charge. Hopefully soon the clubs will catch on and supply the 1/8" to RCA cords, with as many great Ipod DJ's now, why wouldn't they.

Caramac 11:05 AM - 8 April, 2008
I bring.

Mac Book,
SSL,
A couple of records I was listening to the week I've not ripped yet
Slip mats
Phono to Phono Cables
Phono to XLR Cables
Phono to Jack Cables
MBox
Jack to Jack Cables
Jack to XLR Cables
Mic
Mic Stand
Vestax 05
Power Pack
Ear Plugs
Deodarant
Chewing Gum
Aftershave

To be honest. If the promoter hasn't sorted out the basics, decks, mixer ect it's his problem. I always discuss what needs to be provided. I'm flexible to work with shitty equipment if it's on a budget for a mate etc and will bring my stuff if needed but it needs to be organised before hand.

I do however get to gigs early enough to deal with problems should they arise. ie; go home and get decks if it's going to be a problem.
dj luis 5:49 PM - 8 April, 2008
i bring 2 ipods shuffle

everytime i play a new song i get this look from the audience:

I thought about that, but I'm trying to be professional and using a shuffle isn't. You don't know what song is going to play next, unless you use the straight mode, than it will be the same set every time.

iDJ Niros
sixxx 6:00 PM - 8 April, 2008
Where's your creativity... just shuffle that baby...
Niro 6:29 PM - 8 April, 2008
^^ I like to shuffle the songs in my head, instead of letting the shuffle do it for me. That would be microwave and I don't want to be a microwave DJ. I"m trying to keep the integrity of DJing as an art form and most of the time it works all the time.

sopranosupasta 6:32 PM - 8 April, 2008
i bring scuba gear......just for fun, i like to Dj in full scuba gear, including the mask and tanks.
Niro 6:39 PM - 8 April, 2008
The only problem with scuba gear is the weight ratio when you're on land. It gets really heavy and most tanks would last through one of my World Famous DJ Sets. Sometime I take enhancers and do marathon sets and I couldn't imagine doing it with all of that weight on, especially when trying to hype up the crowd and point at people.

yeah. well thats why you have to have a roadie hold the weight of the tanks up for you......and then i usually purge into the crowd.....they love it.
DJ Sherm 7:00 PM - 8 April, 2008
LOL iDJ Niros keeping it going for like 6 posts. You crack me up man. :D

sopranosupasta 7:52 PM - 8 April, 2008
yeah.....im gonna do it from now on...
JimboJones 2:09 AM - 9 April, 2008
I need to take headphones to EVERY GIG I DO from here to the end of time, regardless of whether I'm told that there will be decent headphones there or not.

For the record, my headphones broke two weeks back, and although I can still use them (one side snapped off, but I can have the other side "on"), they're shite for using in a club.

cappinkirk 2:36 PM - 9 April, 2008
a big ass maglight for spot beaming the crowd when a fight breaks out and for finding my stuff at the end of the night when my eyes are all dialated from staring at the bright screen in a dark club for hours.
dj luis 3:12 PM - 9 April, 2008
you guys shouldn't do that

briguy- you should put lubrification on your finger than the condom to protect it

i don't scratch but that's how you do it - and i know it because my cousin invented it and my grandmother works for the bakery shop down the street
Ab-Loon 3:11 AM - 10 April, 2008
I cant help but to lick my fingers. its just want i do. hahhaha
ryansupak 6:59 PM - 1 January, 2009
One thing I'm starting to pack if I bring turntables, is two pieces of drawer liner like this stuff:

www.containerstore.com

The reason being is that the surface I set up on isn't necessarily rough enough to prevent the 1200 cases from sliding around. The 1200s stay in the cases because that allows me to "hang" the TTM57 between them, and to stack the EFX-1000 on just behind and above the surface provided by TTM57 and the cases.

I'm surprised. I would have expected to see more of you guys traveling with 2 laptops. I'd be very afraid to do a gig w/ just 1 laptop.
