Keep practicing. It's a wild crazy world once you take off the sync training wheels but it's ultimately much more rewarding.

What I do is echo out, grab the mic and tell em to put their hands up.
I also walk into clubs or should I say bars and when I see a virtual dj user I laugh in their face and tell them I hope they enjoy their free bar tab and fried apps for pay.

Adjust the pitch control + or - until the beats are playing exactly the same together.
Cue points are helpful to start. And most important, learn with your ears (not by looking at the waves or BPM display)

as a child, you learn what a profession is all about.
fireman sprays water on blazes.
cops chase robbers.
carpenters build stuff.
BUT.... the profession of being a DJ??
Simple. Put on your big mouse costume, hit play and entertain the crowd. Get paid millions.

What makes me sad about threads like this, is that it takes me back to when I was learning.
At that time the only resources available to me were:
Watching other DJs
Listening to mixes
A single DMC VHS tape that I bought
And still I managed to learn.
Kids coming up now have got endless hours of video on YouTube, from tutorials to live sets, and the massive amount of info online.
And yet...

where the hell is the "LIKE" button on this damn forum?
cuz PHATBOB, that is exactly what my first thought was.
With the goddamn internet on your fuckin smartphone. Youtube has fuckin lifetimes worth of videos/tutorials to watch. Countless websites of written How-To's, yet an insurmountable amount helpless fucks exist nowadays. It just makes me hope my daughter grows up to be a lawyer and fuckin legally swindles the countless amounts of dumbfucks that exist today and in the future.

Truth.
Just trying to imagine having YouTube around when I was learning (let alone the ENTIRE rest of the Internet) simply blows my mind.

What is this so-called "internet" thing you speak of?
Sorry, I'm still living in 1985 and I just purchased my belt-driven turntables and my Radio Shack mixer.

1. find a mentor.
you can learn online with videos and such, books even.
but nothing is going to give you what you want then someone standing right next to you
slapping your hand with a ruler everytime you pull out a bad-habit move...
2. Practice.
Its like shooting Free-Throws....someone can show you the proper way to shoot a basketball.
and you might get it in 1/4 times right off the bat.
but nothing but hours standing at that line shooting and shooting is gonna get your technique
perfect and make you drain 4/4 shots everytime.
3. record yourself.
and listen all the time.

Why do I have the feeling that most of you are so full of it? Arrogant and stuck up!? Bet you didn't start djing knowing all the answers....that's why we have forum! . Somebody asked a legitimate question, if you don't have the answer or you don't want to answer just shut up! I have the same need as the original post and that's what brought me here!
