What do you want for X-Mas? (DJ related)

DJ Tecniq 10:52 AM - 13 December, 2011
I figured this would be a good post that would last awhile. So I'm curious as to what you guys asked for x-mas or want. Of course I picked things that Involved DJ'ing. My limit is $200 from Moms and these are the things I want/desperately need.

tru that. I originally have the Ortofon Elektro's and have had them for atleast almost 4 yrs now and they still work...However during heavy scratching they tend to skip a tad bit. I've had M447's before and have never had 1 skip. But no lie Ortofon's will last your a few yrs.
DJ Tecniq 11:19 AM - 13 December, 2011
Holy crap I just looked up the originally invoice when I ordered my Ortofon's and it was Nov 23rd 2005 LOL. Damn I can't believe they still are holding up. They came with two extra styli. I've had to replace 1 in all those yrs.

It's just the thought of paying $500+ on a cumbersome chunk of metal that'll only be used to hold up some lights. At least with speakers, I can 'hear' my $500 at work. I'll get over it and buy them someday. Maybe I'll get my fiance to pitch in for it.

I like Chad's idea though, I have so many ideas written on scraps of paper, in the car, on this desk, notes in my phone...maybe my christmas present to myself will be taking a couple of days out to get them done.

Do what you do, but... keep in mind that although Bose may suit YOUR needs for sound quality etc., they don't LOOK big and mean and may give your customers the wrong idea. I get a good portion of my gigs because I lug my 1200's around everywhere. I'm obviously not ACTUALLY playing vinyl. $#!t, half the time I'm running on internal mode and not using the 1200's at all. BUT, people are SOOOOO impressed that when they look at my system they see vinyl that it sells. Just trying to keep you from accidently spending a load of cash just to shoot yourself in the foot : )

I feel ya, every gig is different. I've been turning down gigs as of late (taking the time to do me and enjoy life a little more) but the gigs I'm taking are smaller more intimate (100-200 people) so this works for me.

deezlee 1:59 AM - 10 May, 2012
did you get the bose?
how is it?
i've been thinking of getting one, but i'm wondering about the lack of a loud spot. it seems like i want a loud spot in order to make the dancefloor louder then the seating. also can you really use it as a monitor? i usually like my monitor to be less loud than the dancefloor.
thanks
DjayRage 1:05 PM - 10 May, 2012
Yeah I jumped on a sale and got them. I have used them a few time since then with no problems. I would not use it as a monitor. I have been using it in front of me to the side. As a monitor I have powered 15"s, a powered 10" and a powered 8" speaker, it all depends on the size of the venue/event.
I've never had a speaker fail at an event before but I have carried backups for years just in case. All it takes is one time to mess everything up.
As for your question about the loud spot on the dancefloor. Yes it is louder if you have this right by the dancefloor, but one of the selling points of the Bose is how far the sound carries THROUGHOUT the room. I like that the sound is uniform for the most part. I'm not turning it up super loud where people can't hear each other talking anyway.
deezlee 12:42 PM - 11 May, 2012
yeah i guess a monitor is good to have as a backup speaker. thanks.

A Rolex Submariner... let's me see when it's time for last call while I'm spinning.
A sub cover... for my 3rd Danley TH-118.
A car cover... keeps me from scratching my ride as I transport DJ equipment past it in the garage.
A new all-in-one printer (HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus)... so a can print and fax my DJ contracts.

I guess the only real DJ-related thing is the sub cover. :-D

Unless you are planning to run 4 ZXa5s (two clustered on each side) I would recommend going with the 90 degree version. They offer a wider coverage pattern that fits most DJ event configurations and they are powerful enough to project to the back of most medium-size venues.

The reason for the case and stylus. I just bent one of my shure needles... when i pack up my tables in my case i keep the cartridge on my tonearm. I didn't think the needle would get damaged because of the guard piece. But sure enough it happened when I wrapped the cord and rca's around the platter. def bent the hell out of it.....I'm lazy sometimes.
