2.2GHz Quad Core i7 processor ok?

Robbie O 8:29 PM - 12 December, 2011
Might be a dumb question but I'd rather be safe then sorry...
I received a mbp 2.2GHz Quad Core i7 processor today and gift (sadly my old 13" is broken)

I saw this for the minum specs for macs

****
Macintosh
Mac OS X 10.6
•32-bit: Intel processor, 1.8GHz Core Duo; 1GB RAM
•64-bit: Intel processor, 2.4GHz Core Duo; 4GB RAM
*****
Since I have a quad is it ok to be under the 2.4GHz requirement for Core Duo's? I want to know before I open it.
Many Thanks in advance!

Quad core i7 is WAYYYY more powerful than any Core 2 Duo.

Blame intel for making this stuff more confusing than it needs to be.

Your MBP should work beautifully.

That's what I use. Flawless ITCH operation.

Cool. I will now open my new toy with peace of mind!!!

I have a 2.0, so I imagine a 2.2 will be more fhan sufficient.

Or a 2.4 ghz, mighty overkill but at least you wont have to worry about high cpu usage.
I'd like to see them on a 128 bit system when it eventually comes out.

what about the 2.7 ghz i7 4 gig 13 3 macbook pro

so to Dj Cerla & Phatbob...after the serato recommended optimizations, you guys don't experience any dropouts at all?
dameon B 9:06 PM - 19 December, 2011
just curious because I have a 2.4 GHz Macbook Pro, Intel Core 2 Duo, 8 Gb Ram and I still get the odd dropout. I'm just concerned about the 2.2 being below the recommended 2.4 GHz processor speed. Willing to get a new MB pro, and just want to be sure I'm not being silly by getting the 2.2 Quad core i7 to save $400 and still have a dropout problem. (btw all my music is on an external hard drive)
phatbob 9:21 PM - 19 December, 2011
They are talking about a 2.4 C2Duo in those specs.

Serato need to clarify that. I'm running a 2.3 i5 and it eats Scratch Live and Itch for breakfast.
Robbie O 9:27 PM - 19 December, 2011
Agreed. My CPU usage hasn't even gotten to 1/8th of the CPU usage and Im exaggerating more like it hasn't even gotten to 1/32nd of the CPU bar. my old '08 13" core duo 2.2GHz would red bar on occasion.
Paco71 9:41 PM - 19 December, 2011
Guys you are talking about very different processor architecture.
An I7 or I5 2.2 Ghz processor is way powerfull than a 2.4 Ghz Core 2 duo processor.

I had an Core 2 Duo Processor @ 2.2Ghz and I had dropouts, now I have a Core I7 2.3 Ghz and everything is flawless.

Despite the processor you have the other components (Ram, Hard drive etc...) that are better and help the performances..
Mm3 12:44 AM - 20 December, 2011
Thanks for clarifying guys! not my post but i found it useful.

im currently using a 2009 macbook, though it runs flawless, im thinking of upgrading.. thinking of buying just the entry level mbp 13" i5 core duo 2.3/2.4ghz (dont need big hd, i use external) which should run flawless with sl and itch. but do you guys think it's worth it to spend the extra money for the quad i7 or even just the i7 core duo will it just be overkill? dont get me wrong if i got one as a gift like robbie o, i would definitely keep it but there's quite a bit of difference in price...

Agreed Phatbob, serato please chime in and clarify this because many people are a little confused by this.

Mm3, I'm very happy with the performance of my bottom-end early 2011 13" Pro. The newer ones should be even better.

Stick 8gb of ram in it after you buy it though... ;-)

It goes without saying, if you can afford a more powerful Pro, get it. Macs live for a long time (I'm using a 2007 MacBook as my home machine), so the bigger and badder you can get in the first place, the better.
Dj Ace 5:55 AM - 20 December, 2011
I am using my g4 1.67 still at home...Macs or tanks! and if I run a pre 2.0 version it runs so smooth!

can't do video tho

Ok I have read this whole forum word for word. I use the NS7 with itch my old mac book is freezing all the time now so I upgraded to the mac pro 15 with the i7 2.2ghz quad core should I be ok?

Does this means you no longer have drop outs with your NS7 and the Mac?
DJdaveZ 5:59 AM - 22 May, 2012
agreed... same laptop here.
