DVDJ Experiences with Lion?

djmattmaticsdet 2:36 AM - 18 October, 2011
I just bought a new macbook i5, 8gb of ram, and yes it has Lion on it. I know Serato is not officially supporting OS Lion yet (I really hope they are working diligently on this issue) but I am curious what issues if any DJ's are running into while trying to run video SL on a Lion system?

Let me know some insight!

i am and it runs fine. i'm sl version 21122 since that is the last version that would run without crashing.

i have been running lion w/ssl 2.2 - 2.3.1 since summer. no problems at all. i am currently using ssl 2.3.1 with a TTM 57 SL.

do you have to have 2.3 installed or you can just have 2.2, with a 57.

i didn't have a problem with 2.2, but i remember some people reporting driver issues (driver not installing) on lion and 2.2. i think that problem was only if you had an i5 or i7. The 2.3.0 release included mac 64-bit drivers.

I have an i7.

Shit.

I don't want to touch 2.3 with a 10ft pole or a windows machine.

no problems when running the video on 2.3.1.?? Because for some reason serato still is not supporting video sl for lion... But after hearing what you guys have said I think i'm gonna give it a try
Dj Nyce 2:32 AM - 20 October, 2011
i use ME, i can't speak on VSL.
djmattmaticsdet 8:15 PM - 20 October, 2011
Do you recommend using ME over vsl? Have people completely given up faith in vsl
djpuma_gemini 9:28 PM - 20 October, 2011
what's vsl?

I have Lion on a 17inch Macbook pro with Lion 10.7.1. The only issue I had is my firewire drive will not do data transfers. So I now have to change it back to usb 2.0. But it still runs fine. I am using 2.3.1 (23103) and the only version of VSL to come out in the last year and a half. I have minor hiccups with waveforms freezing. But I think its because I haven't maxed my ram as of yet.

update: VSL is running perfect on my new macbook pro with lion. 8gb of ram and intel core i5. Just to let you guys know if you have any problems with a similar setup, let me know!

Updated to lion last week. Test drove my setup at home and had USB dropouts randomly. I searched the forum and it seems that issue is well know but I have not see any thread mentioning any solution to this. I'm running SSL 2.3 with ME on a TTM 57. Going to update to SSL 2.3.1 to see if it makes a difference and will report back.

i understood the issue is just with the rane mixers, NOT with midi control as for example through the pioneer nexus mixer.
Dj TopDonn 10:40 PM - 29 October, 2011
I ran it last nite for about an hour with no hiccups. Looks like the 2.3.0 update with the 64 bit drivers may have done the trick but will still keep an eye out for it.

Do you guys think this is a good computer to buy? I was reading this thread and that's why I posted it on thsis thread any help will be appreciate it www.bestbuy.com

For mixing video I highly recommend a laptop with a dedicated video card

Like this
store.apple.com

That one is actually too low for me and I'd recommend at least a 512MB video card, but 256 will handle video just fine.

I've been running lion for about 1.5 months with no issues.

I did install 2.3.1 for the drivers (64 bit) for the 57, but you don't need to run it just have it installed.
I'm still on 2.2.2 with 0 (knock on wood) issues.
