I started my own site just because i got sick of linking to a ton of places (facebook, twitter etc...) and I wanted a place to blog about scratching and stuff. Check it out if you want, the whole thing cost me about 50 bucks a year and I made the whole thing myself. Wordpress makes website building pretty straight forward even if you have no idea what you're doing (me).

nice site chester. very clean.
Kepik 4:46 PM - 12 September, 2011
I just recently over-hauled my website with a new look, www.djkepik.com

Made this all through WordPress. Aside from being able to easily make a webspage, another great thing about WordPress are the many plug-ins that easily add new tools to your site. Such as instantly creating a form field with captcha (for guestlist entries or inquiries) or create a viewable gallery of pics.
Naf 2:43 AM - 13 September, 2011
What he said^^

If you want something entirely custom you might have to get creative with some coding. But if you want cool stuff that you see on most sites (FB comments, twitter feed etc..) you just download the plug in. Makes things real easy
Chris Deluxe 9:23 AM - 13 September, 2011
@DJ Chester
I really like the logo/banner at the top of your website.

I see a lot of people use wordpress, never heard of it but i will check it out for sure!
For my own website i use 'Joomla'. A friend of mine set the basics up, the rest is just a matter of clicks & typing, no coding involved. I used a template from one of those template sites i found. Joomla is open-source, so parts like the agenda and photo's are plugins created by users and (most) are available for free. I still have to finish it, but here's what i came up with till now:

kept pretty straight with my own site -> www.djrickyjay.com

I also did the design on Panic City's site --> www.djpaniccity.com

some more of my work --> www.96firm.com

I used to be 100% custom on sites, but wordpress has brought alot of value, options, and possibilities to the market, similar to serato with the dj industry...

I was actually just flicking through DJ websites (and agencies specifically) tonight.
All I can say is damn! They are nearly all cheesy, nearly all out of date and nearly all look so plain they look like a dodgy company that you wouldn't trust.

People always talk of first impressions, the most common one is the website these days. Only way to do it is 100% properly.

Can you give us an example of a "cheessy" website and a "non cheessy" one within the 500-800 dollar budget, thanks!

still don't understand how people expect a press quality website for under 1k.... its like DJ Vice djing a club for 150 + drinks...

Wait you guys payed about $1000?

I saw a site that was similar djrickyjay and he was asking for $300 and I said no.

I need to contact him back asap.
lvmez 6:14 PM - 14 October, 2011
it really depends who you use. I've seen $500 dollar websites that i'm not impressed with. I've seen websites that were done by novices and they looked good. It also helps when good input is given.

im not saying this 2 coast less than 1K but im saying, for a first website to have a 500-800 one isnt so bad, specially if you are not a big dj getting 3K per night like vice,BTW your comparison was horrible!! lol

I don't think the comparison was horrible at all.... you can't walk into a car dealership and get a deeper discount because you aren't getting paid big bucks like other people do....

Granted wordpress has brought down alot of pricing and such similar to serato with the average dj market.... but there are still hours for email time, phone time, planning, research, setup, designing (maybe 1-3 revisions), etc...

I find it funny... alot of the inquiries i get for sites are people that are complaining on the internet about lowballers and people doing their job at the club for 50 bucks + drinks and are using vdj with auto sync... their excuse for more money was the quality of their product... Yet some of these people are lowballing me for design work. #smh

understood but people that are complaining that the pricing of a ferrari is "too high".... shouldn't be shopping in that market at all.... just because the majority of my invoice is for labor charges, doesn't mean you can still afford the end product with a 1/4 of the required budget.

Thats all.
