I just installed ITCH 2.0 on my system. I started the program and it began to load. I saw the main screen for 10 seconds and then it spontaneously shut down with no error message or warning. I restarted the program and it gave me an "out of memory" error and shut down.

I thought the database V2 file may be causing problems with v2.0 of the program so I deleted it. I restarted the program and it began to read all the files on my external hard drive. I have in the neighborhood of 100,000 tracks so i knew it was going to take a long time. I went to work, returned 8 hours later and it was still not finished and was reading very slowly. In the past reading my whole hard drive would take about 2-3 hours. I shut down the program and restarted. When it restarted it gave me the "out of memory" error and shut down.

Is there a solution to this problem?

I have an I7 pentium with 6 gigs of memory running windows 7 x64.

Hey Ta-Bar-Nick,

can you tell me your computer specs please?

Did you have ITCH 1.7 installed before? Did that work?

Are you using an external drive for your music?

Have you had a look at our optimization guide yet? serato.com

Let me know how you get on

Hey Nick,

Please also try if the issue persists if you use ITCH 1.7 now. Here's a guide on how to install multiple versions of ITCH: serato.com

When you rebuilt the database V2 file - did you rebuilt both - the one on your system drive and the one on your extenal drive?
Ta-Bar-Nick 3:57 PM - 4 September, 2011
Hi Phibs,

I am multiple installing V2.0 now. I will get back to you with the results of optimization from the guide.

The out-of-memory issue was not present when I reverted to V1.7. I did erase and recreate the DB v2 only on the external music drive after I reverted.

I never erased the DB v2 file on the main drive. There is no music on the internal main drive. I will erase both DB v2 if I run into trouble with the ITCH 2.0 multiple install.

I will report back with the results of the multiple install.
Ta-Bar-Nick 6:02 PM - 4 September, 2011
Hi Phibs,

Please see below the sequence of events I performed to recreate the error I described a week ago.

Hey Ta-Bar-Nick,

Thanks for the crash dump...we will have a look at it. In the meantime a few more questions:

Did you try to install an instance of ITCH 1.7 - did this work?

After you deleted your Scratch Live folders (between step 5 - 8 in your first sequence), did ITCH work without problems?

Do you have some very large files in your library (over 200MB)?

Phibs
Ta-Bar-Nick 3:13 AM - 6 September, 2011
HI Phibs,

1. ITCH 1.7.1 is installed and works with the _ScratchLIVE_ folder it created.

2. ITCH after steps 5-8 ITCH did start but I did not test any sound functions. There were no crates or tracks added.

3. Yes I do have large files in the library. They are complete DJ sets. May this be causing the problems? I will try to rebuild the library without large files.

Hi Nick,

Just for your understanding - all your crate information is stored in the subcrates and crates folders in your _serato_ folder. ITCH also writes to the crates folder but actually only really uses the subcrates folder. If you rename or move the _serato_ folder you will see no crates in ITCH.

We are currently working on an article to explain the best way to organize music with ITCH or Scratch Live. The bottom Line is basically to organize it in Windows' Explorer or Mac's Finder first and then import the folders step by step into ITCH/SL. If you really want to manage ALL your tracks in ITCH, I would strongly recommend to import them step wise instead of all at the same time.

If you do so - do you get crashes whilst analyzing files?

Just to reconfirm - Did you have issues using ITCH WITHOUT your external drive?

Let's go step by step from here - it's easier to track the problem down like this :)

cheers

Ta-Bar-Nick 1:06 AM - 9 September, 2011
Hi Phibs,

Responses to your paragraphs

2. My tracks are very well organized into folders in Windows Explorer.

3.
In ITCH 2.0.1, I have never reached the point where I can analyze. The program has been too unstable.
In ITCH 1.7.1, I do have crashes while analyzing files. They generally occur when I have BITTorrent running or other apps. When BT is off, I am able to analyze 30000 tracks with no crash. I have had cases in the past. I do not remember how I formed the library made with ITCH1.7.1 .

4. I do not have any music on any internal drives. All my music is on the external drive as mentioned. I need this so I can un-hook the drive and do a show instead of taking my whole desktop. I use the external drive with my laptop.

SOLUTIONS SUGGESTED:
A. Do not add files which are greater than 200 mb
B. Form the library one folder at a time.

I will use these two techniques and get back to you.

Hi Phibs,

8 folders were added by dragging 8 folders at once into ITCH. The 8 crates were created automatically. I did not crate the crates by myself.

The last file in the Overviewbuilder.log was part of a "comedy" folder. It could have been speaking-only. The analysis process made it 16 files into the comedy folder. I will remove this folder from ITCH to see what happens

Hey Ta-Bar-Nick,

There shouldn't be an upper limit of tracks that you can analyze in ITCH.

I can only repeat myself:
Quote:
after the crash. please don't open ITCH again!

Browse to the _Serato_ folder in your users music folder on your internal drive (I guess you imported the music from there again).

Open Overviewbuilder.log with a text editor

When ITCH crashes during analyzation it happens because a file is corrupted and causes a conflict in ITCH that makes it crash. The last file in the overviewbuilder.log is the last one ITCH analyzed, hence the one that is potentially corrupted. Deleting it or moving it to location that is not read by ITCH usually solves the problem. Since there can be more than one corrupted files you might have to repeat the process until all your files analyze correctly.
I would advice you to analyze your music in chunks and not all of it at once.
Otherwise we have many users that use ITCH with a lot of tracks and only few issues.

Please make sure you follow the steps I described and keep me posted on how you're going :)

cheers

i am having similar issues. i solved the problem by selling my NS7, bought an NS6 instead, ran into the same issue, so returned that back, got my money back and went with Tractor. Hey alexanderadams,

Could you start a new help request here: serato.com. It's easier for us to keep track of things that way. Make sure to enter all your computer specs and what kind of controller you're using.

cheers
