Poll, Which do you use to spin ABS - REL - INT

kidjay 6:40 PM - 5 July, 2005
Curious to what other DJs are using when they spin with SSL.

CDs or Vinyl: Vinyl

What mode do you use the most: I was strictly in Absolute, but lately I've started playing a little with Rel. mode
Detroitbootybass 6:47 PM - 5 July, 2005
Control vinyl with turntables.

While using the turntables in the studio, I use 'absolute' mode. If I am doing my radio show, I use 'internal' mode because I don't want to haul all my gear down two flights of stairs to where my internet-connected computer is located.
s42000 7:00 PM - 5 July, 2005
Vinyl - ABS
nik39 7:15 PM - 5 July, 2005
Vinyl - ABS
Relative esp when the needle skips like hell on dodgy crap turntables with a loos platter.
DJ Jayzon 7:27 PM - 5 July, 2005
Vinyl - ABS (REL when lots of skipping occurs)
DJ Irv 7:49 PM - 5 July, 2005
ABS almost 100% of the time. I do switch to internal after mixing in records if I am experiencing problems with the tonearm connections.
LaJollaDJs 8:09 PM - 5 July, 2005
CDs on my Numark CDXs
(Just like any CD junkie, I use the cd player cue point)

ABS
KMXE 8:33 PM - 5 July, 2005
Vinyl

Absolute, Relative when necessary (quick cueing, when the needle is skipping or scratching samples)
nobspangle 10:07 PM - 5 July, 2005
Vinyl - Relative, no need to put the needle back to the beginning after each track
bush 10:20 PM - 5 July, 2005
vinyl - relative
CS-80a 10:22 PM - 5 July, 2005
Vinyl - relative, because can get much more creative with it.
DJ Dynamight 12:04 AM - 6 July, 2005
Vinyl @ home/club, CD w/ Denon S5000s @ mobile gigs.

Absolute mode all the way.
eder 12:06 AM - 6 July, 2005
vinyl, abs or relative, depending on how much sound i have...i prefer relative cause i can get crazy w/ the scratching w/o worrying about an occasional skip but if there's too much sound (6 bottoms, 4 dual 15" tops), rel can get a bit messy to work with...
sixxx 2:24 AM - 6 July, 2005
Vinyl. Absolute mode only.

I'm light on my hands when I scratch/beat juggle and don't want to start getting into a bad habit by using relative mode. I made sure my control vinyl are not warped (not even slightly) for best control.
Thundercat 4:00 AM - 6 July, 2005
Vinyl, ABS when working or recording.
Internal when prepping for CD's, building crates, previewing freshly imported tunes, etc.
TGK 4:18 AM - 6 July, 2005
Vinyl - ABS

@ home/Club
DJ Hondai 5:36 AM - 6 July, 2005
Vinyl - ABS

sometimes I might switch to REL for doing some effects and stuff.

I often spin with just one turntable: ABS vs INT
skutch 7:57 AM - 6 July, 2005
vinyl abs
BassChamber 8:28 AM - 6 July, 2005
vinyl

scratching/juggling: absolute

beat mixing: sometimes absolute, sometimes relative.
Freddagreat 4:33 PM - 6 July, 2005
vinyl ABS all the way.
LowfreqFX 4:44 PM - 6 July, 2005
Vinyl - ABS only
DJ EmDeaZiL 5:38 PM - 6 July, 2005
With vinyl, I use abs mode and switch to relative when I'm scratching or juggling.
DJ 3pm 7:41 PM - 6 July, 2005
vinyl

i use abs for precision scratching
i use rel for blending/mixing/looping
adz 7:55 PM - 6 July, 2005
Vinyl - Relative

...plus cue points to jump around in a track & liberal use of the free second copy of every tune... gotta love fs :)

keep your old fashioned abs, sooooo much more you can do in rel, whole new skizlz to be mastered, :)
adz 7:56 PM - 6 July, 2005
oops, when i said fs, of course i meant sl :) doh!
Haiku 3:50 AM - 7 July, 2005
Vinyl - ABS strictly.
djtrippin 5:24 AM - 7 July, 2005
although i am seeing a lot of absolute here, im gonna have to say i use relative, makes for faster track loading, maybe im just getting lazy.
djal 11:17 AM - 7 July, 2005
Vinly - Started with ABS, but now I use REL most of the time, you can do more and cue faster. For example, when I do my radio show, I can mix out a song, hit CTRL Arrow to load the next track and catch the beat without lifting the needle to find the beginning (I edit most of my songs so that it starts on a beat). If I preview to line up my mix, I can hit I or K and go right back to the beginning to mix. You can also set cue points and use them to loop or stutter.
dj dawn 11:19 AM - 7 July, 2005
vinyl-REL ...sometimes ABS or INT
djal 11:20 AM - 7 July, 2005
PS I didn't spend ~$500 to do the same thing I can do with a turntable with MP3's. I want to be able to do a lot more, and to do that REL mode is the way.
Hex 4:21 PM - 7 July, 2005
Vinyl - Usually Absolute but Relative if the decks are skipping. Somtimes use Internal for my radio show when I'm being lazy ;)
mexicannnnnn 4:31 PM - 7 July, 2005
vinyl - abs... oh but I dont have SSL yet ;-)

I, on the other hand, spent $458 to be able to carry 15,000+ songs to every gig without messing up my back. :) ---- Absolute all the way. Then again, I may just be an old school dj.
CS-80a 7:23 PM - 7 July, 2005
all this 'strictly' absolute stuff is a bit gay. (imho)
CMS 10:55 PM - 7 July, 2005
I've always used absolute mode. I haven't found a need to use the other two modes.
ACME 1:18 AM - 8 July, 2005
vinyl - ABS

They is keeping it real though
RiceCube 4:47 PM - 8 July, 2005
Vinyl: Relative

I could never mix as quickly as I do now if it wasn't for Relative Mode.

Is there a website that allows people to share large files for free? I'd like to post one of my mixes for feedback but I don't have my own website or server.
bush 4:59 PM - 8 July, 2005
yousendit.com

or

rapidshare.com
McSpleen 4:54 PM - 13 July, 2005
Vinyl, ABS, REL (if skipping occurs and for heavy scratching)

I think he meant to say "ghey". No one gets offended that way.
s42000 5:03 PM - 13 July, 2005
Talk about ghey ... a guy I knew just came out of the closet last week ... It's an understatement to say family and friends were shocked.
ACME 6:42 PM - 13 July, 2005
come on, we know he didn't say "gay" with an offensive intention.
I've found it's pretty common for English people to use the word "gay" outside of its originial sexual meaning

Yes he did... What word could replace 'gay' in his sentence and still covey the same meaning? Stupid? Lame? It was meant as a 'negative', not 'happy' which is the original meaning of the word 'gay'. The use of said word was infantile and innappropriate.
ACME 8:31 PM - 13 July, 2005
I don't sense any strictly sexual meaning in CS-80a post, hence why I think the post is not that much offensive.
Anyway, I think that he could have choosen many words better than this.

now back to the poll please...

McSpleen 5:01 PM - 14 July, 2005
Yes, getting back on topic would make everyone "gay".

Sorry, couldn't resist... ;)
CS-80a 6:44 PM - 14 July, 2005
What a nunch of silly billys you are.
CS-80a 6:45 PM - 14 July, 2005

Serato
Josh 12:37 AM - 15 July, 2005
