Multitrack MP3's

Because SSL currently seems to support multilayer(?) mp3-files (Whitelabel.net ones), could it be possible to produce kind of multitrack mp3's, like a song that has instrumental on one layer, clean acapella on one and perhaps dirty acapella on one. Then you could play the track ja choose on the fly which layers play, from instrumental to full song to acapella with one file, all in sync all the time.

Just a wild idea i got, it's 5 am here so that could explain it. :)

would be nice ...but i think impossible..
how will you make these mp3´s?
from a vinyl?
how to get them sync(acc in the one layer, inst in the other)? and with which programm?
not easy ..and a dream ;)

and that for every track?
a bit too much work :(

whitelabel.net files are no multitrack files, they use a different trick. the mp3 format doesn't support what yo call "layer". So its technically impossible.

the player could link and manage files like that (if they were identical or matched up properly in most respects), even though the files themselves couldn't do that.

imagine how dope it would be to switch from dirty to clean or inst on the fly! cue points might be tricky to remember.

yeah, but it will never happen

Akiem - ive been doing this for a long time now - but setting it up is very tedious especially when synching up tracks recorded from vinyl - sometimes them sh!ts is so out of sync ive had to time stretch the tracks etc. so much hassle!

tekniq - ive suggested the same thing scratchlive.net

but Multitrack MP3s is such a better and easier way of describing what we're looking for!

Im hoping SSL could maybe implement something like 'Grouped Tracks' where basically you only see 1 entry in your track list, but within each 'Group Track' are multiple versions - and these versions are all lined up to 1 'timeline'.

Better yet, how about we call these "Records"? Like a real record has multiple versions - group a bunch of tracks and call it a 'Record'.

It would then be nice to have shortcuts assigned to 'Dirty', 'Clean', 'Instrumental', and 'Acapella'.
