ITCH 2.0: the Quest for the Mighty Easter Egg begins...

"AND the coolest thing of all. They have an easter egg, that when you press a certain code the colored waves change color to reflect your EQ's. That is the sickest visual representation i've seen!"

Unlocking the easter is no joke. You have to press a three key combo (common keys, like control + alt + delete), THEN you have to tap in morse code a word, somewhere specific on the screen.

I know that's very vague but it took us a TON of trys to figure it out with the Serato team giving us plenty of hints, and still no luck. I plan on doing a write up for DJTT on 2.0 sometime this week and will include as much as I can about the easter egg.

Are u being serious about the morse code part?
djcerla 5:37 PM - 18 July, 2011

hahahhahaha....

yep. Its fuggin sick. I think it's the dopest visual tool and most creative idea any software has implemented.

and as cool as it is, it's pretty damn hard to 1. figure out. 2. to do.

Enjoy :)

also major props to the guys who figured it out - Kraal and marcA
Javier drada 9:34 PM - 18 July, 2011
That easter egg was a bitch to crack, but well worth the effort
DJred24 10:03 PM - 18 July, 2011
So wheres 2.0 download on the website?
DJred24 10:03 PM - 18 July, 2011
I didn't see it. IT's still showing 1.7.1
haze324 10:04 PM - 18 July, 2011

thebulge 3:42 AM - 19 July, 2011
Cough it up you punks !! :)
DJ Sergio B 4:09 AM - 19 July, 2011

zanzibar1 4:52 AM - 19 July, 2011

djcerla 4:57 AM - 19 July, 2011
... and add waves... ;)
marcA 7:24 AM - 19 July, 2011
look for messages at the bottom to help you out :)
but do hold the 3 key combo before start clicking around ...
sl1pm4t 1:13 PM - 19 July, 2011
Does anybody know or figured out what the left / right vinyl distortion mode does?
marcA 2:32 PM - 19 July, 2011
there is a posting on the ssl forums that claim it alters the sound on slow scratches...but i have no idea...

mmm lion king.... KING....

waves is for the colored waves, they already told us that, king has to be something about the message that you have to type in morse
haze324 3:17 PM - 19 July, 2011
^ your getting warm Mr. Selkie
marcA 4:16 PM - 19 July, 2011

marcA 5:58 PM - 19 July, 2011
even with all clues presented on a plate one still have to get his morse tapping skillz in order :)
Javier drada 6:13 PM - 19 July, 2011
Cerla needs to make a video, cause it's not easy at all.
Kevin "Soulkhitect" Gibson 6:15 PM - 19 July, 2011
Lol
nFLuence 6:28 PM - 19 July, 2011
: : . : :-

thats as far as i get... the dots are the clicks... if that makes any sense lol this is crazy
marcA 6:40 PM - 19 July, 2011
-.- .. -. --.
blackavenger 7:09 PM - 19 July, 2011
I've been looking for that "specific" place to type in the code....can't find it :/

Every field that I try to type in whilst holding down Ctrl, Alt, Shift, won't show the Dashes & Dots. Does the Hardware need to be connected, or should I be in Offline Mode? Regardless, I've tried it while being Connected/Disconnected, but still can't find any field that will let me type in anything while at the same time holding down the button combination.

I'm stumped.
marcA 7:14 PM - 19 July, 2011
you can do it in either connected or offline mode
but you don't need to type, you need to click..
blackavenger 7:22 PM - 19 July, 2011
Quote:
but you don't need to type, you need to click..

You mean the Space Bar?

if so, then how would you differentiate between the Dashes & Dots? I've been using Hyphens (Dashes) & Periods (Dots). I went on a Morse Code Translation Site to get the code....if you have to use the Space Bar, then I have no idea how you would get the prolonged pings from it.

LOL...this is crazy, but fun none the less!
zaguama 7:24 PM - 19 July, 2011
i get to the point of Dot!!! lol, i'm sure thats where all of you got stuck at the beginning :P
blackavenger 7:40 PM - 19 July, 2011
dj pesh 7:46 PM - 19 July, 2011
i can get to K.I.N and then i mess up. i am randomly clicking. lol
Javier drada 8:05 PM - 19 July, 2011
It is a bitch to get, awesome feature but not sure if I want to do that before every set I play.

How do you do that? im no genius on this kinda stuff but what software would i need?
haze324 8:47 PM - 19 July, 2011
The G is the hardest one to get.

It's all timing, but you guys got it.

I wish we could just turn this on! This is fresh enough to have all users show it off as a dope feature.

Well I get the feeling that Serato is holding back a few things for the final release... Maybe this might be one of them?
zaguama 9:05 PM - 19 July, 2011
shit im stuck in the G as well haha, my sis is looking at me like wtf is wrong with you i said im talking in morse code to ITCH :S.
dj pesh 9:14 PM - 19 July, 2011
anyone got pics of what it looks like? im p*/$£d off i cant get it to work, i been on it for like an hour.
dj pesh 9:23 PM - 19 July, 2011
or if someone posts a video or somat that would be great
DJ Sergio B 9:48 PM - 19 July, 2011
that "G" is rough.

I can get to the G each time - I don't have the execution to get it
darkside2551 10:05 PM - 19 July, 2011
I Got It!! All it said was "You are the buffer king ctrl+alt+shift to disable" but I didn't notice anything different....I'll go try it on my DJ computer with hardware connected
darkside2551 10:14 PM - 19 July, 2011
I still don't see any difference with the hardware connected....dose the easter egg work with V7's?
zaguama 10:22 PM - 19 July, 2011
you need the hardware connected im assuming because you will see the difference on the wave colors after you start playing with the EQ knobs. How you got the G of KING btw >D
wadup 10:24 PM - 19 July, 2011
^^^^^^
Look at the wave form when you turn eq knobs
wadup 10:26 PM - 19 July, 2011

selkie 11:42 PM - 19 July, 2011
I don't even know why I'm doing it if I don't have my Twitch yet, only the offline player, oh well
zaguama 12:26 AM - 20 July, 2011
so this is where im at:

hold control + alt + shift then with your mouse on top of the wave:

click, click click, click click click, click, click (up to this point you should be on K..I..N.. and missing the G :P)
zaguama 12:28 AM - 20 July, 2011
too bad this fucked up the spaces so i will simulate a pause between clicks with underscores:

click,click_____click,click_____click_____click,click_____click

gotta love the coolness factor of knowing an egg and not sharing it, instead of practicing behind the decks....... *crickets*
haze324 3:18 AM - 20 July, 2011
You did read a few post up where it's posted what keys to hold, what to tap in via morse code, what the code is, and where to press it.

What more did you want?
SiRocket 3:18 AM - 20 July, 2011
yup.
defjamblaster 4:09 AM - 20 July, 2011
just by looking at the screenshots, whats the big deal? i'd think it was a defect if not for the clues itch gives as you try to enter the morse code.
westell54 5:06 AM - 20 July, 2011
It's a cool visual reference to help you see the adjustments you make to a track with the EQ's. Kind of like level matching but with the individual frequencies of the music. I'm gonna mess around with it tomorrow, my head's hurting from trying to tap the letters in...
westell54 5:07 AM - 20 July, 2011
BTW, you'll only see it with the hardware connected and it doesn't work with the V7's because of the external mixer. If it's added, at least you should be able to turn if off if needed.
zaguama 6:03 AM - 20 July, 2011
so how you pull off the G? :)
marcA 6:22 AM - 20 July, 2011
just take it slowly, and simulate the morse with the mouse so a long click for a dash and a short click for a dot
-.-
..

zaguama 7:09 AM - 20 July, 2011
lol i give up, frickin G haha, will continue my attempts tomorrow.

I did it! yay!

I have only the offline player booo!
haze324 3:42 PM - 20 July, 2011

selkie 3:51 PM - 20 July, 2011
nah I did it again, I think I got it...

One tip is that don't worry of the spaces between letters

just do the first letter right: -.-

then the: ..

always looking to the bottom bar as it tell you when you do the dash or dot right...

so basically

. is a single click with no pause

- is a single click with a.. lets say 2 second pause. Once you get the hang of it, its so easy pal.
D~ 3:23 AM - 22 July, 2011
Has anyone else had it say on the bottom bar something along the lines of "You are now a level 1 filter junkie, press alt+ for ______filter, you have 30 seconds"? I looked down just in time to see it before it went away...
haze324 3:25 AM - 22 July, 2011
^
that's the original easter egg. It's still there.
D~ 3:31 AM - 22 July, 2011
Sorry.. just figured that out. Thanks.
haze324 4:22 AM - 22 July, 2011
not sure if both easter eggs work though. I read someone else say that with the filter egg, the waves just darken up. Not sure how well it works together.

anyone tried them both?
dj NiCk DiCk 5:09 AM - 22 July, 2011
so sick haha <3 serato
marcA 7:11 AM - 22 July, 2011
the superfilter works in comination with buffer king
the only problem is that when using the superfilter, the other egg thinks you are turning the bass eq and hence alter the reds in the waveform....
so not perfect but who cares
DJdaveZ 9:29 AM - 22 July, 2011
i nominate you, marcA, to create a bug report for that...

i keep getting "ohh not quite there. Tap King" maybe dash or dot come after. I got u are almost the "k"

wa i doin wrong?
haze324 10:23 PM - 22 July, 2011
when it says Dash. that's what its registering that you have done.

pause then do the next step of the code dot or dash. It will say what it registered, etc.

so when you are pressing like a mad man and it keeps telling you, you are almost there and then you see DASH. That's the first code to begin with.
BadBoyChubs 10:52 PM - 22 July, 2011

P.S while i know better now, guess wat i found out . 2 things
1. if u hold SHIFT and tap the wave u make it smaller and make more room for crates in horizontal mode.

2. holding shift control and alt and clicking the player rotating circle, i see "distortion viynl enable or click again and u get to disable it!

Can't understand for the life of me why Serato would choose to waste valuable time and resources of such silly things as this when their customer base is literally screaming for current issues to be fixed and implement new features that they actually want/need. :-/

Actually, the feature enabled by the Easter Egg 2 is very useful. I hope it will turn into a proper setup option.

There are two eggs? I thought there was just this arcade-esque lightshow one.

the easter egg is just that you dont have to use it... but it does help when you dont have proper booth monitoring and 'forget' to turn back on bass ect. but what issues need addressing

OK, so this is the one you're referring too (variable colored waveform tied to mixer's EQs)? If so, how is this at all useful?

vs. just looking at the EQ knobs right in front of you on the mixer?

If you can't "see" how it's useful then you're missing the point. Just like Kraal just said.. when your monitors fail you it can be helpful to know at a glance without looking down. If you don't like it just don't use it!
[O/][iii][O/] 7:18 PM - 23 July, 2011
lol, ok. wow.
haze324 7:21 PM - 23 July, 2011
i don't understand why someone would think it's not useful. We use a software with Colored Waves, Color Coded Cue Points, Your Loops turn the waves green to notify your loops are on, etc. It's all color visual feedback and this another great feedback mechanism.

If you don't want visual feed back simple - just use vinly or CDJ's, or use black and gray waves, or use a program that doesn't have stacked waves (another form of visual feedback) etc.

I think it's just silly to say what's the point - just look at the mixer to see where your EQ's are. The same could be said about ANY form of visual feedback in SSL or Itch. Seriously guys.

Reminds me of rearranging chairs on the Titanic.

It's not the same as those other features. Plus, you're right, it can be said about SSL/Itch controlling devices IF the devices actually have indicators ON them. If the devices have visual feedback on them (like a knob for an EQ does) then it's not necessary to have it on screen too. Why on earth would anyone want to stare at a screen when they can get what they need on the device they actually have their hands on?
[O/][iii][O/] 7:27 PM - 23 July, 2011
Redundancy is fine, but not at the expense of getting other important things handle first is all I'm saying here.
kraal 7:37 PM - 23 July, 2011
not sure what links you are sending too with your list there...... but sending to the beta section is AFTER the easter egg was posted so those were not reported

cause you are already looking at the screen selecting the next track ect... then you see hey my wave is wrong cool. In a dark booth the knobs are not that easy to see....

+ all the ongoing proprietary ITCH controller issues listed under each manufacturer.

like I said kraal, i'm not against it, just what seems like the priority of things.

to very minor issues --- so i get your point dear serato stop adding any features till you fix ITCH and not recognizing my hardware after going to sleep cause my mac always goes to sleep in the middle of a gig. Even if that means no itch video till ALL issues are resolved.

I am being sacarstic hear but all issues will never be resolved. I beleive the easter eggs are beveloped ideas that fall into the catagorie of not everyone will want this. I remember when ITCH first launched their stance was no never on filters/effects but they added the easter egg for the people that wanted something
haze324 7:46 PM - 23 July, 2011
i think you're just arguing to argue man. Every time a new feature comes out whether it comes out as an easter egg or standard feature (lets say day time mode) the priority should always be to fix drop outs, or a controller not being recognized, etc. I got it. But with that mentality there will never be new features and this place is always asking for more.

Fair enough. Point taken.

I'm guessing the code was already written and they decided to use it as an easter egg instead of an official feature close to end of coding cycle. I think it's cool and im sure the developers like putting in fun stuff like this for us. Shouldn't get all sour grapes about it.
elsupermang 1:56 AM - 24 July, 2011
p.s. The sour grapes comment wasnt directed at you kraal, just agreeing with your perspective on the developed ideas that not every will want.
