While performing a gig and an external hard drive hooked itch was performing great then after awhile it timed out and just shut down while performing

Let me guess...
You had a Mac or a PC.
The external harddrive had it's own power source, or not.
It was plugged to your computer with or without a hub.
And you had at least one ITCH controller.

I can't believe that nobody was able to help you yet but with so much information given I think it is just a matter of time until you tons of solutions.

...I guess.

I have a Mac and the ext harddrive does not have its own powersource. I bought a powered external hard drive just hours before the gig and didnt have time to load all my music from old drive to new one. It was plugged in without a hub.

External HDs are a bag of hurt in DJ land. Do you have THAT much music?
Dj cuervo 12:59 PM - 17 July, 2011
Yeah purchase a 500 gb internal drive for your mac. Leave those externals alone. Headaches!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
reggiet 12:59 PM - 17 July, 2011
Yes I have a whole TB full of music from every Genre and just bought a 2TB

I have a 500 gb internal for my mac but i have too much music for just 500 gb

Since it is powered I would say it's a 3.5" drive. Those drives are good for archives on desktop machines but not for live performance.
2.5" drives on the other hand mostly work good if you use 2 USB ports (one for power) but most Mac's only have 2 ports...

Maybe you should check a drive bay and use two internal 1TB drives if you need that much storage.
But I'm still wondering. I have 5000+ tracks both FLAC and MP3 (90% 320kbps) and only need 105GB.

Firewire or USB drive?
reggiet 1:21 PM - 17 July, 2011
@Serkan you have this music on your hard drive or on an ext drive. The drive i just bought is a Seagate 2.0 but upgradeable to a 3.0.
reggiet 1:23 PM - 17 July, 2011
@djcerla then one that i was running was a Westeren Digitial USB and the one i just bought is a Seagate 2tb powered one upgradeable to 3.0

I'm using external drives only for backup or non-DJ use like photos, movies.
