Hello dudes,

I received my Traktor Kontrol X1 today and I followed every installation description I found on the internet.

What I did:

1. installed the Controle Setup (everything worked)
2. installed Midipipe (the buttons responded great) and I didn't close the application
3. started Scratch Live (all the buttons of the Traktor controller were enlightened)
4. tried every button / knob but the controller didn't not work...

Any ideas or experiences?

As far as I know sometimes problems appear when using the 57SL and a 3rd party controller with its MIDI functions..?!

Thanks for your support

Cheers

Hi dj_stunna,

I believe you also need to install the Scratch Live preset file that Native Instruments provide for it to work. Try this:

1. Ensure Scratch Live is closed.
2. Open Finder and go to the Applications -> Native Instruments -> Controller Editor -> Template Support Files -> SSL Mapping -> Traktor Kontrol X1 folder.
3. In here you'll see the SSL_X1.xml file. Press control and click on this file and select Copy "SSL_X1.xml".
4. Go to the Music -> _Serato_ -> MIDI folder.
5. Press control and click and select Paste Item. The SSL_X1.xml file should now show in this folder.
6. Open Scratch Live.
7. Open the Setup Screen and go to the MIDI tab.
8. Select the SSL_X1 preset and click the Load button.

Your X1 should now be ready to go. Please let me know how you get on.

Hi
I am having the exact same problem. I have the X1 Kontrol with Scratch Live version 2.2 and the TTM-57 with CDJ-1000 decks. The X1 lights up but doesn't respond when I press any buttons. I followed your steps too and installed the Scratch Live Preset file for Native Instruments. Please help, thanks.

Ok new update: The X1 is properly connected now I believe because I am getting 3 responses from the buttons I push. The top two buttons which are listed as 'Gain' work (althought If you go anywhere past half way the music gets distorted). The browse and load knobs work and the censor (or sync) button works. But that's it. Did I somehow change the default settings?

Hi Woodstock,

If you install and load the MIDI preset, it should work. Do you have any other MIDI presets saved?

Hi guys!

Little help.
Try to browse the Traktor Kontrol X1 installation CD for these presets called SSL_X1.xml and SSL2_X1.xml. Second one is mapped for Scratch Live 2.2.
About the overlay for serato what is included in NI X1 box is for SSL1 which is slightly different than SSL2 preset and overlay what you can see on NI website. There is no problem if you know how to use Control Editor.

Thanks for the info ZOLTAN, I wasn't aware that there was a different preset for 2.2.

:)

Does it for you mate?
ZOLTAN 12:26 PM - 18 February, 2011
Sorry, does it work?

Thanks for getting back with me. Unfortunately, the SSL2_X1.xml preset did not solve my problem either. I will try and post a video shortly showing you exactly what I'm doing and maybe that will make it a little clearer as to what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks guys.

Ok I just attached a short video explaining my setups and the issues that I'm having. Again, FX1 and FX3 have some sort of effects working. Nothing like the effects that are triggered when loaded through Traktor though. The browse knob works and the censor button works. These are the only keys that respond when pressed. Thanks.

Hi, every1! I'm about to buy this tracktor controller x1! But i got a lil concern about this controller! How is gonna work with the Serato Scratch Live version 2.2?

Did you guy resolve the issues?
Woodstock 1:06 AM - 19 March, 2011
Did you guys ever get a chance to check out the video I loaded? I still can't get it to work.

Thanks.
joshvent 3:58 AM - 19 March, 2011
Hey woodstcok, where did you loaded the video? I'm trying to get this controller (native instrument traktor controller x1) so bad, but i dont want to spent that much money in something that won't work perfectly! Ok, if some one knows that this controller works the perfect way or not let it us know!

Thanks,

Oh it definitely works joshvent, it just doesn't work for me. And if what I'm reading is correct others have had similiar issues setting it up. What's so frustrating is actually seeing it work and not being able to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Check this video out: blog.dubspot.com
They got Serato and the X1 working properly.
As far as my video I see the .mov file above in my follow up post but I can't access. i guess on the serato techs are to access once you attach it.

Hi Woodstock,

Sorry for the delay in reply, I have been away from work.

Thanks for the video, I can see what the problems are that you are having :)

The first problem is that you are in absolute (ABS) mode, which doesn't allow you to use any looping or cue functions. You'll need to switch to relative (REL) to be able to use these functions.

In regards to the DJ-FX controls, you should open the DJ-FX panel. You can see the effects you are controlling, and select the effects you want.

Also I believe you don't have to have the Controller Editor or MIDI Pipe open. You just need to have the drivers for the X1 installed and then put it into MIDI Mode (which I believe you can do by pressing the SHIFT and HOTCUE buttons).

Please let me know how you get on.
Woodstock 6:48 PM - 25 March, 2011
Thank you so much. It is finally working! There are a ton of effect options in the DJ-FX panel. The only one effect I couldn't find which is the main one I bought the X1 kontrol for was the dry/wet effect. Where you can use one knob and turn from dry to normal to wet effect. Can you offer any assistance with that? Otherwise, all else is all good and I thank you for your help.

Are you meaning ultra knob mode? Please take a look at this section of the manual and let me know if this is what you're looking for -> www.serato.com (click link).
Woodstock 11:45 PM - 28 March, 2011
Yes that is exactly what I was looking for. I see I will need to do major tweaking to achieve the wet/dry effect but the option is there so thanks for your help.

I'm trying to use my Traktor X1 with Serato Scratch Live 2 software. I downloaded the Traktor X1 software from the Native website, and I have found the SSL_X1.xml file, but it does not have the SSL2_X1.xml file. Do you know where I can get that from?

Hey DJ Free-key,

I'm not sure where to find that file, I've taken a look on the Native Instruments site and I can't find it either. You might need to get in touch with their support team, sorry!
DJ Free-key 10:30 AM - 4 April, 2011
No worries. I will try to contact them. thanks. In the mean time I have assigned most of the buttons to what I wanted anyway. I even assigned two of the volume controls to control the pitch.
