actually musical youth's version of the song was a watered down version of the original "pass the kutchie" by the mighty diamonds. the original is clearly referencing weed smoking as you can even hear the inhaling of the band-members on the track. BUT the musical youth version, "pass the dutchie" was referencing food to make it more mainstream friendly and appropriate for underage kiddies to be singing. a dutchie is actually a pot and in the song they say, "how does it feel when you got no food?" the original says, "how does it feel when you got no herb.
