anyone who ever argued that the dj community was NOT a collection of haters should visit this thread.

but deebar- no one is going to help you build your library for you from scratch. nonsense is right that part of your job is to develop a taste/sense for this stuff. part of being a good dj is having the best library (and then knowing how to work it).

there are a ton of threads people already started with veiled attempts at getting established dj's to provide a roadmap to a library. you can get a good start there on what to download, then look through old billboard lists to see what's been popular year to year. download some mixes (or search youtube) for some popular djs to get a sense of the type of stuff they mix and how they mix it. how you mix something is 100x more important than what you play, and anyone who argues differently is crazy.

also, you've gotta show people you've done your homework before anyone is going to help you. show that you've put in some work and are willing to put in more, and you'll get much more constructive answers from people.

maaaan... asking people for direct answers to your question is not research. and whats worse is that 'researching' music nowadays consists of watching videos on youtube.
i was born in 1980 and half of my library is soul/classic rnb which was released b4 1980 and i found that music by listening to the radio, watching soul train, using shazam and.....google, etc.

respectfully.

Welcome to the world Beebar. No love. Competitive market. My advice to you to get you foo the starting line is get youself some decnt hardware, some turntables a mixer, SL is a bulletproof platform. Rip EVERY CD you can get from your personal collection, mom and dad and friends and family. Get on billboard and make sure you've got the hot 100. Go to some local clubs and watch for similarities- identify the songs that you hear every time no matter what day or type of club. Practice practice practice. Try to get a gig at a local bar on a week night and get the hang of playing live for a small crowd first. Crawl before you walk. Interact with the crowd ALOT and ask for requests. Get your feet wet, Then as you start to get the hang of it move to better nights at bigger bars and clubs and grow up in the dj game. Prepare for the haters and complainers, take their abuse and keep on rolling. If you've got what it takes you'll make it and have a good time and make a few bucks. If you don't have the gift you'll get spooked out by the challenge and sell off all your gear on craigs list. Good luck.
