Easy Guys.....

I've been trying to back up my internal hardrive,it 500gb and I've filled around 350gb. I tried to to it using a 500gb external hardrive, but it couldn't do the majority of them due to error codes ? Is there a certain way to do it or a certain hardrive I need ?

Also would I gain anything from updatng my operation software...I'm new to macs but mega impressed :)

should just be able to copy and paste, or let the external drive be a time machine copy, that copys everything, including the OSX so basically a mirror image of everything on the mac and how it all runs etc....

I dont think my version has time machine,it's 10.6.0.
How do I get that,it gives me the option to upgrade the os but I was unsure whether to wait untill I'd backed up my internal.
Do I get the latest os if I choose the upgrade option ?

i would use the search for updates from the main mac menu header, do all updates possible, then time machine

updateing isnt going to cause you problems so no point putting it off, mac updates are better than updates in the land of windows

Hey Cutloose,

Time Machine comes stock in the 10.6 OS.
Its on your computer already.

I would suggest doing some research about time machine to get a better understanding of how it works.

Note.. you don't need to use Time Machine to backup your Scratch Live info.
As long as the external drive is formatted correctly to use with your Mac then you should just be able to drag/drop to the drive.

To check the format of your external:
1. Ctrl+click on your external hard drive icon that is sitting on your desktop.
2. Choose 'Get Info'.
3. Look under 'Format' to see the format of your drive.

How is the drive formatted?

Let us know and we'll go from there.

Its format is NTFS

This is why your not able to move your information to the drive.
You will need to reformat the drive before your able to accomplish this.

Please read here for instructions on how to do that --> serato.com
